The playing field has always been even!! The United States of America is the country that has been infiltrated with many races and religion, it's a melting pot. Why? Because in this country, poor tired immigrants came here to start a better life and DID! They started businesses then and they continue to do it today. What is so hard to understand? hard work = success in the majority of cases!
Why should people collect a check from the government to exisit? How did they EARN this? Can someone answer that question? For those of you that aren't old enough to remember, I will tell you that the country thrived in the 1980's and YES Ronald Reagan was the President. Do yourself a favor and go get educated (meaning read for yourself and learn on your own.) Don't let your teachers, professors, etc. teach you THEIR views on this great nation, take the time and do it yourself!! You will be surprised the things you will learn. You will learn more than a (I want my summers off, that's why I teach) dolt will tell you!
The playing field is even! It's up to each and every individual to go out and accomplish His/Her dreams and make a life for themselves. Not everyone is cut out for management, investing, attorney, doctor, etc. The world needs ditch diggers too! Welfare is NOT the answer, it's a system that has been an utter failure since it was started and if you know who started it then you know why some people vote the way they vote!

Open your eyes! There is hardly a cigarette paper between what Republicans/Democrats actually do when in office, despite the rhetoric.
When China began to liberalise its economy in the late 80's all of the western nations had to realise that things were going to become a whole lot tougher in terms of staying competitive. This meant that tough (and unpopular) decisions needed to be taken in terms of curbing spending and wages. Because these measures would be unpopular they were never taken, consumption was king for Republican and Democrats alike.
The combined public sector debt of the US, UK, Germany and France (lets not even talk about the PIGS) stands at USD 24 trillion (you can add another 7 trillion to that when you factor in unfunded pension liabilities). The bottom line is that the position is now totally intractable and no political party can fix it. The argument going on between austerity and stimulating growth is a false dichotomy. The fundamental problem is one of competitiveness versus developing economies where cost bases are much lower and where productivity is accelerating much faster.

I know guys who don't have book smarts, hell they had to burn down the schools to get them out of the 5th grade, but they are successful at the business they own today. Yes, you read that right. some of the best local place to eat around are owned by guys who use to be servers and bartenders at AppleBee's or Chili's etc for years....learned the food service ins and outs and took a shot with their own ideas. Same goes for most successful owners....ask around and you'll see they were entry level...worked up through management from effort and said "hey I can do this either as my own place OR I can improve the business model where this one is lacking and startup on that idea"
If the will and effort is there....the opportunity is for anybody, regardless of education, background, or skin color or whatever EXCUSE people like to shove out there as a reason they are where they are today.

End the prohibition of drugs, prostitution, gambling. The government spent $15 billion dollars on "The war on Drugs" in 2010. (This figure does not include the cost of the thousands of people in jail for small time drug convictions.)
De-regulate business, and lower corporate tax, and give business a reason to manufacture in the USA. Every one who wants a job would have one.
