xoom has no flash support... the iPad is cool, but it has too much potential to put up $800+ for the current models. imo.

In reality.....you don't. But while the iPhone's screen is amazing, the full viewing laptop size screen of the iPad is obviously much more convenient to look at most things. With the iPad 2 having an integrated camera/video, I use it for all kinds of things I never thought I would. Even have started using it more as a business tool, though we got it simply for recreation.

The point of the iPad isn't to replace your laptop. It can't. But its awesome if you're traveling, or sitting on the couch, and simply want something to surf the web, check out scores, watch movies/video, etc. Much less cumbersome than either having to lug a laptop on a plane, or sitting with it in your lap.
As far as typing goes, its surprisingly smooth. Wasn't sure how I would like the touchscreen, but it actually is really simple to work. I send dozens of emails from Vegas last week, and I typed the majority on the iPad. I can certainly bang out a paragraph quicker on it than I can my iPhone 4.
