    Formula 1: British Grand Prix

I see a lot of value on Webber this week at +1100.

He has done well the past few years at the British Grand Prix:

    2011
    Qualifying: 1st
    Race: 3rd

    2010
    Qualifying: 2nd
    Race: 1st

    2009
    Qualifying: 3rd
    Race: 2nd

    2008
    Qualifying: 2nd
Race: 10th (he spun on the 1st lap and dropped from 4th place to last place)

    My bets for this weekend:

    Fastest Qualifier:
    Vettel +150 (2.8 units)
    Webber +1100 (2.4 units)
    Alonso +800 (1 unit)

    Race Winner:
    Vettel +225 (1 unit)
    Webber +1100 (1.3 units)

    Winning car:
    Red Bull +150 (1 unit)

Please noboby blindly follow me as I just started watching F1 this year and am still learning.

I would love to hear what others think and/or are betting as well.

Nice picks Dad. Red Bull cars are looking really good the last few weeks.

Webber is great value play, but I think Vettel gets it done this week - pole & race win.

I like Webber too Dad. But just because he is Aussie really.

I'll be watching for the McLarens in Friday practice. After Lewis' whining about no recent upgrades last race, and harping on about again between races, I'm wondering if a huge upgrade might be due here.

    According to the Daily Express:

"Torrential downpours are set to dump two months’ worth of rain on Britain
by the weekend, bringing the threat of widespread flooding."

Opti, I was just reading this, which goes through the expected updates for the McLaren boys...

I read that hoping for some good info, but that sounded more like Sam just justifying himself more than telling us anything of worth I thought.

Sorry, didn't mean to get your hopes up! While most of the story is fluff, there is definite upgrades coming, but nothing massive by any means. I doubt it will be enough to close the gap to Red Bull.

However, McLaren (Lewis) dominated in qualifying in Spain, and that is probably the most similar circuit to Silverstone that they have already been too. I think they should be quite competitive this weekend.

But with the rain... we may never really see a straight fight.

With the cold & rain, im thinking Ferrari, Sauber & Mercedes may also be in the mix again.

Others might have a different view but IMO most of the current drivers have proved to be very capable in wet conditions.

Webber, Vettel, Button, Hamilton have all had very strong results in the wet in past years. Alonso hasn't had much wet success from memory but you can never rule him out, also Schumacher has been dominant in the wet many years ago.

But more importantly, you should look at which teams have managed to get their car working well in cold/changeable conditions. These would be Sauber, Mercedes & Ferrari. But you should also not rule out Red Bull & McLaren as both cars should be very well suited to the Silverstone circuit with its high speed corners. Another to consider would be Maldonado in the Williams & the Lotus cars, but these guys seem to have cars much better suited to hot weather conditions, so I think they may be disadvantaged this weekend.

I think if it's dry, Red Bull will be the team to beat, followed closely by McLaren. If it is wet/mixed conditions, it will be wide open and come down to who gets everything spot on with regards to correct tyre & race strategy, especially making sure you are on the right tyre at the right time.

Also, on another note, not sure if you guys state-side are aware, but there was a testing accident on Wednesday in the lead up to this weekends race.

Tragic news. She obviously will not make a full recovery, but hopefully Maria has been through the worst of it.

I work in an Emergency & Trauma Centre and see these types of injuries frequently.

The medical crew at the scene would have considered it a high possibility of possible skull fractures, and/or swelling of the brain, etc and would have taken over her breathing for her. Any time this is done, the patient is considered in critical condition. Also, all major head injuries will be classified as potentially life threatening, so the descriptions are always quite dramatic but it does not necessarily mean it is as bad as it sounds.

The kind of head injuries she received are very serious, and there are several potential threats, hence the serious description. Even if the worst is over, she will have a long & slow recovery ahead of her.

I hope we hear what caused the accident soon.

And why an open tail gate was anywhere near where she was driving.

What a disaster of a thing to happen on your first straight line test in an F1, for anyone, let alone one of the few women ever given a chance.

Yep, absolute disaster. I'm sure we will hear in due time, but something like a truck tail-gate should never ever be in such an exposed position.
