Glad I found an AFL thread, good luck for the season nocode, will put some funds in centrebet today. Will only bet on the official season, but am very tempted to back West Coast -29.5 over Gold Coast, seeing as GC are only playing 3 players who have actually played a season before. Any thoughts??

Welcome to the thread casola......sorry didn't get a chance to reply before the west coast game......I did like it though.
Well hope you stick with the AFL this season and we make you lots of money

    Hi fellas,

Firstly, I just want to echo casola's statement about finding an AFL thread! :-) Good luck, nocode1 - I'll certainly be following with interest!

Does anyone here actually bet on the first few rounds of the regular season? The reason that I ask, is that my selections have a form based component and there is no form to go by in the first few weeks (especially round one). I don't consider NAB Cup results to be valid as many teams field players that are definitely not first-string regulars.
Also, due to the inclusion of Gold Coast, this year has byes. Is the general consensus that a team coming off a bye has an advantage/disadvantage/no real effect??

I'm interested in anyone's thoughts on these.

    Cheers & Good Luck!

Rolling with the Bombers +18.5 tonight i think.

Its pre-season, but Bombers always play the Saints hard. Won twice last year and finished 14th.

I thought that may change with Hird taking over, but they were solid in the first week against them and have looked a really good footy side.

0.1x on the ML and 0.5x on the +18.5

I hate betting against you Gee but I'm taking the Saints -18.5. The way they destroyed Geelong last week showed they are really fired up after the off season dramas.

Nice. Essendon will still be mid table this year. Dunno what it is about them and the saints. I thought it was knights - apparently not.

Can't go past collingwood tomorrow I don't think. What you think?

That looks more like Super Rugby than AFL. Nonetheless, nice play and good luck!

You guys are crazy betting that game. I'd be tending to lean Geelong. They have alot to prove and its at their home ground at night where the wind wreaks havoc! Yes there may be some injury clouds over certain players but info isnt confirmed yet. Also St Kilda have some internal issues.

Personally I'm not betting this game, a big PYOL should be ok though.

Brian, centerbet offers a pyol option (pick your own line) as the number goes up, the odds go down. For example St Kilda -5.5 is currently $1.92, +30.5 they are $1.17.

St kilda on the money line is the play here!!!

This is not Geelongs homeground, it is the MCG so it is a mutual ground for both clubs. I would rather take my chances with a team who has had its players do a full pre season without injuries rather then a team "with a point to prove" who has 3 of its best players probably out for this game and even if they do play they will be well under done without any match practice.

geelong No mooney, chapman, Ling, Podsiadly (throw in ablett if you like).... I'm playing St kilda, remember they also have a point to prove after losing back to back grand finals.

Certain parts of the world are "off limits" to sportsbooks that offer these options for AFL. We are lucky to get the spread, ML, and sometimes the total. BOL

Geelong are technically the 'home team' but they'll be well and truly outnumbered in the MCG stands.

Saints have to be the play tonight. Geelong will be a force this year but It's going to take time ... They're adjusting to a new coach and a brand new game plan. First game without Ablett and their captain Lingy is injured.
Their forward line is shaky since Chapman, JPod(siadly) and Byrnes are out injured. Mooney is not 100% so Johnson will need to have a ripping game if the Cats are to win.

Saints have a big advantage imo, as always anything can happen in AFL though. Good Luck guys

Great job kingsr! I also had Geelong but only for a bit. I heard Ross Lyon say last week that the team doesn't have any form right now and it's a major issue so I figured if a coach was willing to say that, I may as well put a bit on Geelong.

    Congrats!
