pirates payroll to top 90 million next year?

why is it not like 125 million?

sucks to not have an owner willing to go for it

    Interesting read.

I agree with you that they have to be at least over $100M to be taken seriously and make a legit World Series run...

    I agree.

Early on this deal favors the Blue Jays, but the true winner of this deal will not be determined, like archie said, until a couple years go by and how these young prospects develop and contribute.

The A's scouts must see something in these young players.

Teams that suck really bad at the time, have to pay for players more than they are worth.

Just watched the Doc Ellis story "No No: Dockumentary".

The Pirate that pitched a no-hitter on LSD against the Padres on June 12, 1970.

Here's the box score from that game... http://www.baseball-reference.com/bo...97006121.shtml

Far from a gem for Doc as he walked 8 and beamed one batter, But never less a No-Hitter.

As for "No No: Dockumentary". It is a must see for all baseball fans, especially Pirate fans.

Word! I'm still not convinced someone could pitch a game while tripping, let alone throw a no-hitter.

LSD must have affected him differently than everyone else that I know of...

Arch, I must admit that I'm sad to see Clint Barmes go, he signed with San Diego.

He was smoother than silk at shortstop, plus a great guy in mentoring the younger players.

Granted, he was making entirely too much money, in my opinion.

Coming from someone that played the position, the Padres got a nice deal with this signing...

I'm going to predict the Pirates starters for Opening Day 2015:

    C: Cervelli
    1B: Pedro
    2B: Walker
    SS: Mercer
    3B: J-Hay
    OF: Marte, Cutch, Polanco

I really hope El Toro works his butt off this winter to become a legit first baseman.

Need his bat in the lineup, just don't think he's the answer at the hot corner anymore...

Good question. I know one thing's for certain, it's gonna be really strange not seeing #2 trotting out to short next year.

Jeter's replacement has gigantic shoes to fill. Not going to be an easy task to say the least.

Didi Gregorius is probably not the long term answer but he's an upgrade over what Jeter has done the last 5 seasons.

Simon and Latos gone from the Reds. Bummer.

Back when the Reds signed Homer, I preferred Latos or was hoping for both. Now have to move forward.

I really like the Antonio Bastardo signing.

He is 29 yet I think his best years are still ahead of him.

Heard he can be erratic at times but will keep the ball in the park.

Bastardo, a lefty, will nicely fill the void of Wilson...
