    College Football Notebook

This thread will be about College Football during the off season. Eight long months until the 2011 season kickoff but those of us who love the game keep up with it year round. Welcome your input and comments.

    ALABAMA
Veteran offensive line coach Joe Pendry has retired and will be replaced by Miami line coach Jeff Stoutland. Pendry, 63, arrived at Alabama in 2007 when Nick Saban was named the Tide's coach. Stoutland, 48, has spent the past four years as Miami's offensive line coach. Pendry was a good one and hate to see him retire.

    LSU
Offensive coordinator Gary Crowton resigned yesterday to take a similar position at Maryland with new coach Randy Edsall. The Tigers finished next to last in total offense in the SEC last season.

Tiger's leading rusher Stevan Ridley says he's going to the NFL draft. The 6', 230 pound Ridley just finished his first year as a starter in 2010. He rushed for 1,147 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Three LSU players will be playing in the January 29 Senior Bowl. Linebacker Kelvin Sheppard and defensive lineman Drake Nevis will join kicker Josh Jasper in the game.

Head coach Les Miles has agreed to a new 7 year contract with the school. I don't know details of the deal.

    CONNECTICUT
Former Syracuse coach Paul Pasqualoni is heading back to the Big East as football coach at Connecticut. Pasqualoni had been the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator, taking the position in November after the firing of coach Wade Phillips.

    KENTUCKY
Wildcat standout receiver Randall Cobb is heading to the NFL. The junior first team All-American announced yesterday he will bypass his senior season and enter the draft. Cobb led Kentucky with 955 receiving yards, 401 rushing and 12 combined touchdowns. Hell of a football player.

    STANFORD
David Shaw has been named head coach for the Cardinals to replace Jim Harbaugh. Shaw, 38, arrived as an assistant on the Stanford coaching staff with Harbaugh four years ago and now he's the head man.

    IOWA
Former running back Adam Robinson has pleaded guilty to possessing marijuana. Robinson was suspended for Iowa's win over Missouri in the Insight Bowl. He was dismissed from the team earlier this month.

Hi Workhorse. How are you doing my friend? 'Bama did some serious tail kicking in Florida in their bowl game. You know that I will be contributing to this thread all year long. It is great to see the Notebook back open, and in here, where we will get some decent responses.

    USC
On January 22nd, USC will have their appeal to reduce the sactions placed against them heard by the NCAA. USC has already determined that win or lose, they will go no further with the process. There was speculation of a lawsuit against the NCAA, But A.D. Pat Hayden dismissed that idea. Hayden said that he believes that USC has about a 10% chance of winning their appeal.

    UTAH
Rumor has it that Utah is looking at UCLA offensive coordinator Norm Chow for their O.C. position. Chow just received a two year extension from UCLA, but that means absolutely nothing. Chow and UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel are simply not on the same page. Neuheisel insists on using the Pistol. Chow wants no part of that.

The Pac 10 officially becomes the Pac 12 on July 1st. The two divisions are simply named (PAYING ATTENTION BIG 10+2) North and South. The North will feature Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, Washington, and Washington State. The South will feature Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, UCLA, USC and Utah. There will be a total of 9 conference games played each year, 5 games against division opponents and 4 games against non-division opponents. The 4 non-divisional games will rotate, except for Cal and Stanford playing UCLA and USC every season. Early favorites are Oregon and Stanford in the North, and Arizona State in a wide open South.

    TENNESSEE
Running back David Oku has announced he will transfer. A Rivals 4 star top 100 player in 2009 saw a very limited role in Dooleys offense this year. Was primarily used as a kickoff return man and was much more sucessful as a Freshman but seemed to regress this year in that department. I dont believe he and Coach Dooley saw eye to eye and is yet another Kiffin recruit to leave the program.

Both USC and UCLA are having their biggest recruiting weekend this weekend. With 80 degree weather they could not have picked a better time to do it. USC is expected to roll right along, and even though they are on NCAA restrictions, they are still poised to sign a Top 5 class, including three or four 5 star recruits.

UCLA is not so fortunate. With O.C. Chow expected to leave for Utah any day, and with no D.C, Neuheisel had little to offer potential recruits, and UCLA's recruiting class will probably suffer for it. Few expect this to be a Top 25 class, which is bad news for the Bruins, because 5 Pac 12 teams are expected to have Top 15 classes, and 3 more are ranked ahead of UCLA. UCLA football is in a real mess after another terrible (4-8) season.

(Thanks BigDaddy and UTMoody, that's the type information we are looking for.)

    7. Auburn, 214
    8. Ole Miss, 192
    9. Miss St., 186
    10. Florida, 184
    11. Vanderbilt, 159
    12. LSU, 156

    Total Offense

    9. Tennessee, 364
    10. Florida, 351
    11. LSU, 341
    12. Vanderbilt, 298

*Notice that Auburn is #1 in rushing; most think of the Tigers as just a passing team.
*Imagine if LSU had an offense (#11) to go with their defense this season.
*Who would have thought Florida would finish 10th in total offense before the season started.
*Another surprise is Bama finishing 3rd in passing offense.

    Rushing Defense
    1. Auburn, 109 yards per game
    2. Alabama, 110
    3. S. Carolina, 112

    2. Florida, 306
    3. LSU, 307
    4. Georgia, 328
    5. Arkansas, 348
    6. Kentucky, 354
    7. S. Carolina, 354
    8. Miss St., 357
    9. Auburn, 368
    10. Tennessee, 382
    11. Ole Miss, 399
    12. Vanderbilt, 419

*Very unusual that a team ranked #9 in total defense wins the SEC and NC.
*Alabama followed its 2009 NC defense with another good one.
*Florida's defense deserved better from the offense.
*God love them but why is Vanderbilt playing football in the SEC?

    Individual Passing Leaders
    1. Newton, Auburn. 185/280, 2854 yds, 30 TDs, 182.0 rating
    2. McElroy, Alabama. 222/313, 2987, 20, 169.0

    Individual Rushing Leaders
    1. Newton, Auburn. 264 rushes, 1473 yds, 5.6 av, 105 yds per game
    2. Davis, Arkansas. 204, 1322, 6.5, 101.7
    3. Lattimore, USC. 249, 1197, 4.8, 92

    Individual Total Offense
    1. Newton, Auburn. 4327 yards, 309 yards per game

    Individual Receptions
    1. Jeffery, USC. 88 catches, 1517 yards
    2. Cobb, Kentucky. 84, 1017
    3. Jones, Alabama. 78, 1133

*Alabama's Ingram led the SEC in rushing in 2009 but managed only 875 yards in 2010.
*Kentucky quarterback Mike Hartline quietly had a nice season for the Wildcats.
*Arkansas' Ryan Mallett passed for over 30 touchdowns for the second season in a row.
*Bama QB Greg McElroy set a single season passing record for the Tide.

Great season for the SEC winning its 5th straight National Championship.

    HOUSTON
The NCAA has granted quarterback Case Keenum a sixth year of eligibility after he missed most of the season with a knee injury. In 2009, Keenum led the nation in total offense (5,829) and yards passing (5,671). Overall, he needs 3,487 yards to break Hawaii's Timmy Chang's career passing record (17,072) and is just 28 TD passes behing Texas Tech's Graham Harrell's scoring tosses (134).

    INDIANA
Hoosier head coach Kevin Wilson isn't upset about Brent Pease's decision to stay at Boise State. Five days after Wilson's choice for offensive coordinator backed out of the Indiana job, Wilson told reporters that Pease kept him updated on the situation and that he was more surprised the Boise State job opened than he was that Pease decided not to move his family to Bloomington. Pease decided to stay at Boise after Boise State head coach Chris Petersen decided to remain at the school and offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin, the Broncos' offensive coordinator, left to take the same job at Texas.

    GEORGIA
Outside linebacker Justin Houston, who ranked second in the SEC with 10 sacks this season, is skipping his senior year to enter the NFL draft. Houston joins receiver A.J. Green as Georgia juniors in the draft. Houston was third on the team with 67 tackles. He had 20 sacks for his career, seventh best in school history.

    ALABAMA
All-American safety Mark Barron said the torn pectoral muscle suffered against Auburn helped him decide to return for his senior season with the Crimson Tide. Alabama is losing three juniors to the draft, including running back Mark Ingram, receiver Julio Jones and defensive lineman Marcell Dareus.

    FLORIDA
Head coach Will Muschamp has completed his Gators staff by hiring former San Francisco 49ers standout Bryant Young as defensive line coach. Young has very limited coaching experience. The former Notre Dame star worked as a graduate assistant under Charlie Weis in 2009. Weis is now the Florida offensive coordinator.

    PENN STATE
I will go out on a limb and call the 2011 season the last one for Joe Paterno. The 120 year old coach has had health issues recently and he is entering the final year on his contract. Many think the school would like to honor the final year of Paterno's contract and then move on.

With Houston moving on, Georgia faces a major problem. They went to a 3-4 defense last season, but they have now lost 3 starting LB's from last season. This is not good for a defense that allowed 31 or more points in 5 games last season.

I would agree that this season may be JoePa's last season, but one thing stands in the way. The schedule. Penn State finishes on the road for their final two games of the 2011 season, at Ohio State and at Wisconsin. In 2012, Penn State finishes the season at home against Wisconsin. I would imagine that JoePa wants to play his last regular season game at home.

Florida really gets hit hard by graduation and NFL defections. Muschamp and his new staff are going to have their work cut out for them this season. Going to LSU, Auburn, and South Carolina, playing at home against Alabama and Florida State, and the annual cocktail party against Georgia is not an easy schedule to face, especially for a new head coach and staff.

    KENTUCKY FOOTBALL
Kentucky seniors Derrick Locke and Ricky Lumpkin will take part in college all star games as they begin auditions for NFL teams. Locke, a running back, will take part in the Senior Bowl on January 29 in Mobile. Rosters have not been completed, but among those confirmed to play include Washington quarterback Jake Locker, Florida defensive back Ahmad Black, Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy, Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder and Tennessee tight end Luke Stocker. Lumpkin will play in the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game on February 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

    MICHIGAN FOOTBALL
Michigan State linebacker Greg Jones has accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl along with Spartans defensive back Chris Rucker. Michigan offensive lineman Stephen Schilling is joining them on the North roster for the game. Jones is a first team All-American for the second straight year. He led Michigan State in tackles and also had a sack, two interceptions and three forced fumbles this season. Rucker added tow interceptions and two forced fumbles.

    UAB
Former Clemson and Memphis State head coach Tommy West is joining the Blazers as defensive coordinator. West spent nine years as Memphis State's head man until fired following the 2009 season. He did not coach during 2010.

    KANSAS STATE
Quarterback Billy Cosh has decided to transfer to James Madison University. Cosh a redshirt freshman felt he would have a better chance of playing by changing schools. His father Chris Cosh is Kansas State's defensive coordinator.

Auburn WR Darvin Adams declared for the NFL draft. Between the number of NFL defections and the number of players lost by graduation, Auburn faces a huge uphill battle next season. Seven wins would be very good for this team, who must face Clemson, Arkansas, South Carolina, LSU, and Georgia on the road, and host Mississippi State, Florida, and Alabama. This looks like a 5th place SEC West team as of now.

BD, Adams is making a big mistake going out early. He's been a pretty good receiver for Auburn the past two years but he is not physically ready for the NFL. He's 6'3 and 180 pounds and with all the receivers available this year in the draft, will be a late round pick. He should have stayed for his senior year.

With Adams' early departure, the Tigers lose their top two receivers from this season. Terrell Zachery, a senior, ranked second in receptions for the Tigers.

They also lose Newton, Fairley, and most of the offensive and defensive front line. It is going to be a long year on the plains.

2011 could well be the year of the Quarterback. Here is a list of some of the good QB's returning:

ACC: Russell Wilson led North Carolina State to 9 wins this past season.

Big East: Zach Collaros of Cincinnati returns. B.J. Daniels will be back for South Florida. Both have had great moments.

Big 10: Terelle Pryor returns for part of a season at Ohio State, but he is not even close to being the best QB in the confernce. Michigan's Denard Robinson returns, as does MSU's Kirk Cousins, and Northwestern's Dan Persa, the best of the lot.

Big 12: Baylors Robert Griffin III can make any play exciting. Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden came of age, and OU's Landry Jones is expected to lead the Sooners to the Big 12-2 Championship.

Pac 12: Matt Barkley of USC returns for his Junior year. Many consider him an outside Heisman Candidate. Ryan Katz of Oregon State has a year under his belt, and gets his receivers back. Andrew Luck of Stanford is the early Heisman favorite. Nick Foles of Arizona led the Wildcats to a bowl game.

SEC: Florida's John Brantley will finally get to play in a pro style offense. Georgia's Aaron Murray has a year under his belt, but loses his #1 WR. Stephen Garcia returns to help South Carolina defend their SEC East title.

Let us not forget Kellen Moore, Boise State's star QB, who returns for his final season, and Boise's first season in the MWC.

    WAC
The Western Athletic Conference is struggling to stay afloat. The conference will lose Boise State this year and Fresno State, Hawaii and Nevada next season. Is San Jose State next? A rumor is floating around that SJSU might be leaving to join the Mountain West Conference. If this happens, the WAC is in deep trouble.

    MWC
As mentioned above, the Mountain West Conference is courting SJSU from the WAC. The MWC is also targeting Conference USA members Houston, SMU, UTEP and Utah State. Despite the departures of BYU (football independence), TCU (Big East) and Utah (Pac-12), the additions of Boise State, Fresno State, Hawaii and Nevada will give the MWC ten schools starting in 2012.

    Bear Bryant Award
Gene Chizik has been named the winner of the Paul "Bear" Bryant College Coach of the Year Award. Say what! An Auburn coach taking home the award named after a bitter rival Alabama legend. Chizik won the award over Nevada's Chris Ault, Wisconsin's Bret Bielema, Michigan State's Mark Dantonio, Stanford's Jim Harbaugh, Oregon's Chip Kelley, Arkansas's Bobby Petrino and Texas A&M's Mike Sherman.

    TEXAS TECH
Head football coach Tommy Tuberville has been given a one year contract extension that runs through 2015 and a raise that boosts his annual salary to $2 million. Tuberville led the Red Raiders to an 8-5 record his first season, including a 45-38 win over Northwestern in the TicketCity Bowl. Raise after going 8-5?? Let's review former coach Mike Leach's record his last five years at Tech. (9-4, 11-2, 9-4, 8-5, 9-3.)

    OKLAHOMA
Sooner officials say the annual spring football game is scheduled for April 16. Also yesterday, the university said the Sooners are scheduled to start spring drills March 8. Oklahoma is set to return 29 position players who started at least one game this past season, when the Sooners went 12-2, won their seventh Big 12 Conference title in 11 years and beat Connecticut in the Fiesta Bowl. Among those returning will be first team All-America wide receiver Ryan Broyles and linebacker Travis Lewis, who has led Oklahoma in tackles each of the last three seasons. Sooners will be a team to watch this coming season.

Ju-Co additions Dial, Douglas, and Williams are Key additions to Bama's team. Williams 6ft 4in 330lb D-lineman was #2 on the Rivals top 50 Juco players.......Douglas was #10 in the Rivals top 50 Juco players as an O-lineman. Dial ranked 15th in the Rivals top 50 Juco players as a noseguard.....Douglas is believed to start at the valued left tackle position to allow D.J Flucker to mature 1 more year at Right tackle.

5 other commitments signed up for classes last week at Bama along with the above mentione Juco players meaning they will be able to start working out with the team right away.

Among those was 5 star Trey DePriest from Ohio (ranked as the 3rd best recruit in the nation by scouts.com) a top linebacker prospect in the nation. I cant freakin wait.......Roll Tide!!!!!!!!!!

    Right on HoldEm.

    JADEVEON CLOWNEY
Clowney is the #1 rated prospect in the nation from Rock Hill, South Carolina. He's a 6'6", 247 pound, defensive end who' play has dominated other high school kids. You are right...he is a beast on defense. He took his official visit to the Alabama campus last weekend and will take his visit to Clemson this weekend. My understanding is he has narrowed it to Alabama and Clemson. He has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, North Carolina, Miami, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Southern Cal to name a few. He would be a perfect fit at linebacker in Saban's system. Let's hope we see him in a Tide uniform next season.

TCU gets a double barrell screwing. First, the MWC is planning to move their game with Boise State from Ft. Worth to Boise. That move is punishment for TCU jumping to the Big East. Next, Texas Tech cancles their game with TCU becuase they needed to open up a spot for a 9th conference game. The switch and cancellation leaves TCU with 4 home games and 5 away games. They now have 3 open dates. TCU is going to have a difficult time finding quality teams to fill those voids.

Now that they seen TCU can beat a powerful and physical team like Wisconsin teams are cowarding out. Esp when Moore won't be there for Boise. Teams need to man up, if you're going to schedule a creditable game live up to the word!

RECORD 56 PLAYERS LEAVE EARLY FOR NFL
The uncertainty surrounding the league's labor situation does not appear to have had a significant effect on underclassmen option to declare for the draft. There were 53 players in 2010 and 2008, the previous high; 52 in 2006; 51 in 2005. The draft is April 28-30, and even if there is no new collective bargaining agreement to replace the one that expires in early March. If owners lock out the players as the union expects, then rookies wouldn't be able to sign contracts until a new CBA is in place. It's possible there won't be a 2011 NFL season, so players leaving college could wind up sitting out an entire year. Even if an agreement is reached in time for next season to be played, the timing of a deal might result in shortened training camps, so a rookie would have less time to learn and impress his new team. Owners are intent on having a rookie wage scale be part of a new collective bargaining agreement and seems hell bent on achieving that goal. For the guys coming out early, it is a huge risk.

    PITTSBURGH
Tightends coach Tony Dews is the third former Michigan assistant coach to join new Pittsburgh coach Todd Graham's staff. Previously, assistant head coach Calvin Magee, also the co-offensive coordinator, and cornerbacks coach Tony Gibson were added from former Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez's staff. Gibson also will be the recruiting coordinator. Todd Dodge, the head coach at North Texas since 2007, will be the quarterbacks coach. Offensive line coach Spencer Leftwich was added from Graham's staff at Tulsa. When he was hired last week, Graham announced that Paul Randolph, defensive coordinator, Mike Norvell, offensive coordinator and Keith Patterson, co-defensive coordinator would accompany him from Tulsa. Shawn Griswold was hired as the director of strength and conditioning.

    WISCONSIN
Coach Bret Bielema has promoted secondary coach Chris Ash and defensive line coach Charlie Partridge to co-defensive coordinators after the departure of Dave Doeren who took the Northern Illinois head coaching job in December. Bielema also hired Dave Huxtable, the defensive coordinator at UCF, to coach linebackers. Huxtable coached the past seven years at Central Florida, including three as defensive coordinator. Wisconsin (11-2) won a share of the Big Ten title last year before losing 21-19 to TCU in the Rose Bowl.

    OKLAHOMA STATE
Junior college transfer Maurice Hayes now is the Oklahoma State football team's sixth early enrollee and will be eligible to compete in spring drills. Hayes is a 6'4", 315 pound defensive tackle who most recently played at Bakersfield Community College, where he was a two time all Northern Conference pick by the California Community College Athletic Association. Oklahoma State's other early enrollees include a pair of junior college transfers, defensive end Ryan Robinson and offensive lineman Michael Bowie. Three high school players also enrolled early. Linebacker Kris Catlin, offensive lineman Travis Cross and quarterback J.W. Walsh. The Cowboys will lose 12 senior scholarship players off a team that finished 11-2 this past season.

Moore will be there for Boise. The game being moved to Boise is punishment for TCU jumping to the Big East. T-Tech opted to keep their non-con home games in tach, which makes sense. No one is afraid to play TCU, especially now that they lose most of their offense and defensive front line.

UCLA is a real mess. They are going to have two O.C's shortly. They are on the hook for $500,000 per year for two years for Chow's services, and now the fool who pretends to be a head coach wants a new O.C. So what do they do with Chow? Pay him off so he can coach aginst them at Utah? On top of all of this, Neuheisel has done what may be the worst job of recruiting in school history. UCLA only has 7 players committed to them. Many believe that they have the worst recuriting class in the Pac 12, with only Colorado challenging them for the bottom rung. Neuheisel, who promised to compete with USC, has failed miserably. USC, with one year coach Lane Kiffin, and still on probation, have a potential Top 5 recruiting class coming in. UCLA has the worst recuriting class in the history of the program coming in.

    LSU football
LSU hires steve kragthorpe as OC.

LSU has hired Steve Kragthorpe as offensive coordinator, Rivals.com has learned. Steve Kragthorpe Kragthorpe didn't coach last season. He took a job on Texas A&M's staff but quickly left to help care for his ill wife.
Kragthorpe, 45, was coach at Louisville from 2007-09, going 15-21. Before that, he was coach for two seasons at Tulsa, where he led a program revival by going 17-9 with two bowls.
He also has been quarterback coach with the NFL's Buffalo Bills (2001-02) and worked on staffs at Texas A&M (1997-2000), Boston College (1996), North Texas (1994-95) and Northern Arizona (1990-93).

UCLA's problem is they are a state school and California is bankrupt. Every move UCLA makes has to be approved and the other school, USC is a private school and has virtualy unlimited funding. Money has to be spent to get recruits, I am not talking pay for play.....I am talking about improving facilities, improving the stadium ect..... USC is by-far and away the big boy in the state.

If that were the case, then why would UCLA consider having what amounts to two O.C's on the payroll? Neuheisel has done a terible job at UCLA, and in recruiting. Cal belongs to the same University system that UCLA belongs to, yet Cal has a recruiting class that many consider to be a Top 20 class. Money has nothing to do with it. While I do not expect UCLA to ever raise to the height of USC on a continuous basis, there is no excuse for them to rank 11th, or 12th in recruiting in the Pac 12. Washington State seems to be doing a better job recruiting than UCLA.

Washington State is doing a great job recruiting, which is pretty strange. Washington on the other hand is going to have a tough time competing in the Pac next year. Expect a Washington State upset for the Apple Cup, barring injuries/suspensions/etc. UCLA and Washington feeding at the bottom right now.

I definately see UCLA feeding the bottom of the Pac 12 South. They finished 4-8, and a repeat of that is quite possible. They may lose all 6 of their away games, and must host Texas and Arizona State. The North is a different story. You have the two big favorites, Stanford and Oregon. Then things get interesting. Cal loses Riley and Vereen. Oregon State loses Jaq Rodgers and most of their defensive line. Washington loses Locker, but little more. Wazzu Gets QB Tuel back and may have finally learned how to win games. Things could be very intersting for those four.

    MICHIGAN
Former starting quarterback Tate Forcier has decided to transfer to another school. Forcier started every game his freshman year before losing the job to Denard Robinson last season. He passed for 2,050 yards and 13 touchdowns. Last year he only played in relief of Robinson. San Diego State and Montana are schools mentioned he might be considering. Hoke got Robinson to stay but lost his backup.

    HOUSTON
Powerhouse Georgia State has been added to Houston's 2011 football schedule. The game will be played September 24 in Houston. Georgia State will be playing just its second year of football. If you recall, Alabama had a scrimmage game with Georgia State the week before the Auburn. Alabama tried not to run up the score (63-7) but Houston will. This game has ugly written all over it.

    TEXAS
Stacy Searels has been named the new offensive line coach for the Horns. Searels, a former Auburn player has spent the past four seasons as the line coach at Georgia. Mack Brown has finally completed a major overhaul of his coaching staff after a disapointing season, including two new coordinators.

    MICHIGAN STATE
Former 4-star quarterback recruit Joe Boisture has decided to transfer to another school. Boisture came to the Spartans rated the #18 pro-style QB out of high school. Before joining the Spartans, Boston College, UCLA and Pittsburgh had shown a lot of interest in him. No word at this time where he's headed.

    COLORADO
Rip Scherer has been named the new quarterback coach for the Buffs. Scherer has been in coaching for over 31 years with head coaching stops at Memphis State and James Madison. He has also served as offensive coordinator at Alabama, Georgia Tech, Arizona and Kansas.

    TEXAS TECH
First, the Red Raiders dropped their game with TCU next season. Now, they raid one of their coaches. TCU assistant Chad Glasgow will become Texas Tech's new defensive coordinator. Glasgow had been
with TCU for the past ten years as secondary coach. This will be his first coordinator job.

    ARKANSAS
The Razorbacks will begin construction on a new $35 million football operations center this year. The 80,000 square foot facility will house new coaches offices, locker rooms, team meeting rooms, training rooms, equipment rooms, lounges, a study area and football museum. The construction time is projected to be 18 months. If you have ever been to Arkansas' campus, you know they already have nice athletic facilities.

You are correct UT. Clowney has narrowed his choices down to six schools with South Carolina and Alabama being at the top of the list. I mistakenly listed Clemson rather than the Gamecocks earlier. He has taken official visits to Columbia and Tuscaloosa and also plans to visit Tallahassee and Chapel Hill. I believe he was visiting Clemson this weekend. Lots of potential with this kid for sure.

USC will have their appeal heard today in Indianapolis. Look for a decision in 30-60 days, if not longer. USC plans to sign 20 recruits this season. The 9 recruits that enrolled earlier this year count on the 2010 season. Look for USC to have 80 scholarship players to start the season. They have managed to find a way to soften the blow.

Oklahoma is now exploring a network of their own, ala Texas. While only in the planning stage, do not be surprised if this becomes a done deal. The network would be smaller in stature, but would directly compete with the Texas network. These two networks could spell the end of the Big 12-2 as we know it, and the start of the 16 team "Super Conference". It all depends on whether or not they go aster 2nd tier rights. So far, no plans have been announced as of yet. But that is so far. Give it a year. When these networks start losing money, they will have to find expanded audiences.

BD, when it rains it pours. Southern Cal just can't catch a break. Former running back Stafon Johnson is filing a personal injury lawsuit against the university for a weight lifting mishap. Johnson suffered a serious throat injury while doing bench presses in the school's weightroom. He went through seven hours of surgery and spent two weeks in the hospital. His hand slipped off the bar and its the USC's fault. Go figure...........
