It sure appears so. USF is the pick to represent the Group of 5 in a Major Bowl this season. They return 16 starters including QB Flowers and 9 on defense. New HC Charlie Strong has a lot to prove after a dismal performance at Texas. 5 starters on offense and 7 starters on defense are Seniors, so the experience is certainly there. If USF is ever going to make a statement, this is the season they will do it.

San Jose State returns 6 players on offense but must replace their QB. They return 8 starters on what was a very porous defense from last season. If not for home games against Cal Poly, and Fresno State, they would be dogs in every game they play. This team simply lacks talent on both sides of the ball.

I think that Charlie is going to run up the score every time the opportunity presents itself, and this is certainly one of those times. Charlie is a very bitter man. He wants to prove to the world just how good he is (or thinks he is). With patsies like San Jose State on the schedule, this is his opportunity. The line in most Vegas shops is USF -20. They should have that covered by half time.

That is correct. The line opened at 25 and immediately dropped to 21 in 8 hours. It eventually went down to 19 1/2 at a few books before settling in at the 20 number. Yes, SJSU has a new HC who has never been a HC before.

The question you asked in your original title was covering the -20. This is where the "How much do they want to win by?", "How bad do they want it?", "How hungry are they?" To answer your questions, the games of the 26th are not included because you would not have an option to pass on them, like you want to do with the USF-San Jose State game. It is not fair to force you or myself to make a wager we are not comfortable with.

Cool. Now what shall we play for? Also, if we do not find an uninterested 3rd party to help us, we will do it this way. I will post the official line (From SBR) on Tuesday as close to 12 noon Pacific as I can. We will then take turns making our picks and alternate each week as to who picks first. The person picking second will NOT be allowed to use any of the other person's picks, but can use the opposite team. That eliminates the tie situation. The person who picks first must post by 12:00 noon (Pacific time, 3:00 Eastern)on Thursday to give the other person time to adjust his picks, if that is needed. Being the host, I will give you the first pick on week 1, and all of the odd weeks. I will take the first pick on all of the even weeks. If you want, we can change that. Your choice. If you fail to meet the deadlines, your score for that week will be 0-5.

We should be able to find a 3rd party. I don't like the alternative for two reasons...

1) It allows somebody who is behind late in the contest to simply take the opposite side and come back. That's not handicapping at all, that's just gamesmanship.

2) If somebody is away or taking a long time to pick, the other has to wait. We have to do that 10 times? Some weeks, we're not gonna make it. You and I are usually not on here at the same time as is.
