I honestly think these two size up nicely against each other. I am suspect of Vitor's BJJ, his stand up, his cardio, and that is all because of his ring rust. I believe the only reason he's back in that cage is because of money, and he's fighting for a pay-check. I don't think he's anything like he was, at all. I don't believe in Vitor, and I'm not afraid to bet against him when he has Sexyama in front of him.

Hoff I'm still deciding on how big I should go in, keep in mind I'm a full time college student, and I have a part time job waiting tables! I was doing the calcs if I would win and I was thinking 400 (10 units).
Yea I hear you, I am definitely suspect of his cardio and ring rust, these are certainly big question marks. Yet I think his bjj is sound to defend any sub from sexy and its hard not to be impressed with his stand up! I'll give you MUCH respect if you're right and sexy pulls this, GL my friend.

Thanks for the GL! I think Vitor's BJJ is over-rated. We'll see how it goes, and I can't wait for this fight as a fan!

I rate plays from 1u to 10u, with a bet on a favorite to win 10u and 10u on a dog as my max play. I am comfortable with a 5u play on this one (half of my max). My total bankroll is 100u if that helps. It really depends on your bankroll size.

I WAS WAY OFF ON THIS FIGHT. I WAS WRONG.

Now no excuses here, Akiyama was clearly done and I'm not calling BS or anything, he clearly lost... but oh my god those two shots were to the back of the head.

Hey, I had Vitor and you're damn straight about those shots. Zero turn-in, maybe a straight 75 degree shot and then another. Gonna be a hell of a gif.

THIS IS WHAT REAL MEN and REAL CAPPERS DO WHEN THEY LOSE . This is awesome (being dead serious, not trying to potshot you HOFF). Anyone that doesn't think this gives someone credibility instead of running in a thread spouting off how they had a gut feeling last second and retracted their bet, or claiming sarcasm was the driving force in a pick they made is a fool. Major class, and a great example of why I will continue to respect HOFF, probably more than I would even if he picked Belfort.

The shots that finished him were illegal without a doubt, right in front of the ref too. Thankfully for me the ref didn't do anything.

I think the refs have a bit of discretion on shots to the back of the head. Intentional ones either get points taken off or DQ. But ones that happen from the fighter turning his head in between a flurry of punches will sometimes not get called if the dominante fighter doesn't keep on doing it.

Rewatching it, I don't think the back of the head shots put him out. Belfort snuck in some shots under his arm right to the chin.

Wrecked and Hoff, it happens to all of us.... can't get all the dog calls right. The fight went down exactly how I pictured it (taking away the shots to the back of the head). Sexyama needs to drop down regardless b/c he was getting nowhere at MW.

Akiyama needs to drop to welterweight.

Akiyama never had any KO power.

I had Belfort winning not only because Akiyama seems to stuggle to win a fight in the octagon but what Chael Sonnen said about that Japanese circuit, they are not good fighters.

    Always off? Wow.
Okay for 1 I said I was going to bet on Hamill because you were on Gustaffson, and your grammar disgusts me, so I was trolling you, and calling you a dumbass.
For 2, I was off on a dog that I was sure in, sorry bro, I'm not god.
For 3 I said Ortiz had some value at +330 I was never on him.
    Look at my plays:

Add up all of those plays individually and I'm 4-1.

he will stay in for a while just to continue pleasing the japanese market. there's a lot of money to be made in japan from televising the events there and they back their fighters like they're kings.

Hard to say if that keeps when they're getting their asses handed to them with regularity. You might justify saying they do by the fact that the Japanese MMA market still exists. The fact that it's barely sustained might say otherwise.

I don't see them cutting a fighter who has gotten fight of the night 3 times.

They cut Keith Jardine on a Majority decision loss to Matt Hammil that was fight of the night and he had a fight of the night 3 fights before that. I don't think this plays much of a factor for the UFC. If they want Sexyama they might cut him and re-sign him for less money. Keith Jardine will probably end up back in the UFC, but for a fraction of what they were paying him before. Realistically, he will get cut. After about 1 quick win to a random guy in another organization they will re-sign him if he is valuable to them for the Japanese market.

they won't cut him, they have an event in Japan on February 26 2012. Okami, Omigawa, and Gomi are really the only other fighters from Japan on the UFC roster

    A) Anyone notice that since his return to the UFC, both of Vitor's wins involved him hitting someone at very questionable angles near or on the back of the head (the blow to Franklin IMO was much more significant to the outcome of that fight than the shots to Akiyama were, but still..)? He couldn't get those hands on Anderson (not like anyone really can), and I'm not suggesting that he's consistently doing this for an intentional reason, but it's interesting nonetheless.

    B) I respect your opinion on Sexy dropping to WW, and I felt similarly about that issue for quite some time, probably since after the Belcher win, but the more I see of him, I'm not entirely convinced that it's really gonna do him any good...Chad do you see him really making any significant impact at 170 (the home of a bunch of REALLY good fighters that will never beat GSP)? Almost every fight if not LITERALLY every fight he'll be getting at WW will in my opinion be incredibly tough, and I can't see it sparking a career turnaround...If I was him I'd strongly consider DREAM at this point (assuming the UFC doesn't make a decision for him by cutting him), he'll still make enough in endorsement money, will still be wildly popular, and will stand a better chance there...

I swear when I heard both Machida and Silva attribute their ridiculous finishes in their most recent fights to Steven Seagal, I had to try so hard to keep myself from bursting into uncontrollable, hysterical laughter. I just remember hearing that statement, and being entirely taken aback.

there has to be some sort of drinking game established involving taking shots of Everclear (or something else about 170 proof or higher) every time Steven is brought up in post-fight interviews by fighters that won.

There are more top ranked boxers (in the lighter weight classes) from Japan than the US or UK, probably combined.

Seriously guys, Bisping is NOT THAT GOOD and he picked Akiyama the **** apart. It's not just me drinking haterade on Bisping. The guy is just not that good. Belfort showed Bisping how you deal with someone that isn't on your level striking wise.

Yeah true - Uchiyama, Ao, Kameda, and Ioka are all high-level but then there aren't many dudes under 130lbs in the UK or US so it's not that surprising! Mexico, South American countries and Asia dominate the lighter weight classes
