Serena Scared To Death To Play Stephens In Round Of 16

    Fellow American
    Black

Her possible successor if she wins here

Massive pressure on Serena and I mean massive and she has choked away 3 matches already this year and big ones

    Aussie to YEs Stephens
Wimbledon leading 5-3 and serving to win
    Cincy serving to win

    WATCH OUT

    Black?

Not sure why that matters. Are you implying that Serena wouldn't be worried about Stephens if Stephens were a crack-uh?

Yeah I'm sure she'll throw the 3rd round match so she doesn't have to play her. How much extra you getting paid to post in the tennis forum?

you guys jut dont understand anything

Of course Stephens being black triples the pressure

    She rather lose to Azerenka

Serena does not even talk to the girl anymore after she lost in Aus

A fellow black women could steal her thunder and that is killing her

Stephens very popular way more than Serena

Even announcers are saying Serena is pressing a lot more in matches

It happens every era new breed chasing old timers

Serena would love to avenge that loss in Australia. She isn't scared of anyone. Plus Serena is 100% this time.

Serena of course is better and healthy

One point I will make if she loses major doubt the rest of her career when facing Sloan

Thoughts creeping in her mind "what if I lose to her" adds a lot of pressure

Stephens popular ??? She is a nobody and will remain a nobody until she wins a Slam, which most likely will never happen.

A casual fan knows Shugarpova, Serena and Venus, and Li Na (huge in China); even Azarenka is pretty much a nobody and has to date that clown to get some exposure. Everybody else is a nobody. Now if Stephens wins a Slam, preferably US Open or Wimby and then goes on Oprah she can become a household name; but with the current competition and the way Stephens plays the odds of that a slim to none.

this match up is really exciting the more i think about it, forget about the black thing (even though personally i bet there is maybe something to it, even though it might not really be pc)
like it or not, women's tennis is the only US tennis right now that's on the map, and it's a fact that pressure effects the players a lot. look at murray in england, but he was able to do it finally. if serena loses she will feel terrible, and she knows she's going up against a player that is very loose and worry free. if you listen to sloan talk she is a bubbly sorority girl. serena is more of a deep brooding person. serena, much more than sloan, could be the one to get psyched out mentally, even though physically she still plays the better tennis.

serena has grown on most people, but sloan is pretty likable too. i bet on serena unders, and sloan to win all the time, so i like them both

can serena hold her off another year? eventually sloan will crush her

Yes she is a slam away from taking lots of endorsement money away from the others too
Its a matter of time she beats Serena every time

Serena looked great last night but this next match nerves could come into play..TONS at stake and not just another win or loss

its a slam she will never sniff

and even if the miracle happened, stephens is a sour puss, always frowning when playing and looks absolutely miserable to be playing tennis anytime you watch her.

serena has more personality/marketability in her shoelace than stephens.

This. Admittedly I don't know if she would have won without the back problem then and it seemed to kind of come and go, so some saw it as an excuse - but anyone who has ever hurt their back knows how it goes.

LoL @ JJ quoting anything from "announcers" ... ESPN fabricates half the stuff they talk about during these matches to try and create stories. Look at the Del Potro-Hewitt match yesterday. They are either the dumbest sports network alive or playing stupid to try and drive the matches to be interesting. They seemed absolutely amazed for all five sets that Del Potro wasn't hitting his double handed back hand and kept talking about well "if" his wrist is hurting, that might explain it. But they kept saying they didn't understand why he was hitting so many one handed back hands ... the guy said in a post match interview after his 1st rounder that his wrist was still hurting. So they either do ZERO home work or as I said, try to play du,b to fabricate a story or angle for the match as they did yesterday. All credit to Hewitt for winning, but so obvious that Del Potro was working without a major weapon due to injury.

She was also a Serena non-choke on-serve away from being down 5-2 and the set being pretty lopsided. So goes it. She definitely plays her fairly well. But we're also talking about a situation like on the men's side where the young guys can take Roger Federer out now. Serena may still be dominating, but she's getting older and slower and girls who have some confidence against her will push her. Problem is outside of Sloane and Azarenka, no one has confidence against her.

Watching Hewitt-Donksoy, announcer Luke Jensen already annointed Sloane as the new #1 ...

Sloane lacks consistency yet. She's got some pop, but she can't harness it all the time like Serena does. Also have to remember, this is just her 2nd full year on tour. She'll have to continue to prove the consistency. She had it once the French Open rolled around through the Summer. After Australia though, she was pretty poor outside of a run or two. If she's going to push to the top, she should be QFs or better in most of her tourneys played.

It's a joke trying to compare Stephens to Serena. Don't get me wrong, I like Stephens, like her game, and have made much mucho dinero on her the past year but saying that Serena is scared to death to play her was just plain idiotic. Even in a year or two, I dont know if Stephens is on the same planet skills wise as Serena. Serena's serve is light years better than Stephens and more importantly the ground strokes. A strong first serve is not something that can get better either. Either you have the talent or you don't. Stephens can work on her serving for the next two years and I still dont believe it will be half of how dominant Williams serve is.

    Pipe dream ......

Her serve has to be better though. When you play someone like Serena, if you get broken more than three times - you're going to lose a majority of the times. She gets broken against much poorer players than Serena also - see her 1st round match.

And I mean there is never going to be anyone like the Williams sisters serving-wise until they make some sort of genetic freak to play WTA. Their serves when they were coming up until Venus' decline were almost untouchable and like comparing an A+ paper to a C- every time someone stepped on court against them.

Didn't you hear? America is the greatest nation in the world, always will be and always has been (however that works out). It's the country to wins losing.
