    Apparently this is no average clay court. A factor to be considered in our calculations. That may explain some of the upsets perhaps.

    Few mistakes there. Madrid doesn't use altitude balls, for example - those are for altitudes twice as high as Madrid.

    Also, altitude balls are the same size range as regular balls (the author is thinking of type 3 balls which are 6% bigger, but none of those are currently allowed under ITF rules). They just bounce less to compensate for the effect of altitude, which otherwise would result in too many head-height bounces.
