    Oxfam rooting on Federer

    A gambler who died three years ago could win more than £100,000 for Oxfam if Roger Federer pulls off a seventh Wimbledon triumph.
    Tennis fan Nick Newlife, from Oxford, bet £1,520 in 2003 on the Swiss winning seven titles, at 66/1.
    Before he died in 2009, Mr Newlife left the bet to the charity in his will.
    Graham Sharpe, from bookmaker William Hill, said: "Sadly Mr Newlife died in February 2009, aged 59, but willed the bet on to Oxfam who now stand to receive £101,840 as a result.
    "Federer is 4/1 third favourite for this year's tournament despite not having won the event since 2009 - so he could yet prove a literal dead cert for the late Mr Newlife and Oxfam."
    Oxfam spokesman Stuart Fowkes said: "Legacies amount to 10% of our total income from individuals, so they're essential to us, and as this case proves they can come in all shapes and sizes.
    "It is very easy to make a will, and including Oxfam could leave a lasting legacy for those most in need."

    =============

    Not sure how Federer being 4/1 makes this a dead cert. If he doesn't win this year, he's hardly likely to win in 2013.

    I'm fairly sure I've read that this guy also put seperate bets on Federer winning 5, 10, 15 and 20 Grand Slams (or something to that effect) at massive odds in 2002/2003, as well as betting Roddick to win 4+ slams. Obviously the guy was totally clueless.

    Federer's defeat of Britain's Andy Murray in Sunday's Wimbledon final means the charity will now collect a payout from William Hill of £101,840.
    Andrew Barton, from Oxfam, told 5 live's Stephen Nolan that it had been a difficult match to watch because his loyalties were split.
    "It's just so unfortunate that he nailed it against Andy Murray," he said.
    "I was just sitting there watching the tennis and I kept finding myself calling for Murray, particularly in that long game in the third set.
    "And then my head is telling me: Andrew, remember Oxfam gets the money if Federer wins."
