That's why it's so hard. You don't know when the players are gonna show up. You definitely know they will show up in the majors. They usually show up and go hard in the Masters Series events (men). Everything else is just a fukkin tossup as to whether or not they will care about a match. Azarenka would have smashed that bitch today if it was a major.

All these matches and win/losses determine rankings... and if you will win a title or not...why would she just not care to win?

LOL @ taking a -900 favorite in a 250 Tourney and then complaining about her losing. This board is ridiculous.

She's ranked # 4 in the world playing an opponent ranked # 130... Nobody even knows who the fuk Marina Erakovic even is... She was ranked like # 350 just a few months ago... Tell me how you expect me not to lay 900 bills to win a $100 when 99 out of 100 times a match like that is free money... I don't jump on every fukkin huge favorite man, only when the time is right....

Just like tomorrow I'll be all over Juan Del Potro -600... the guy is way to good

Small tournaments like this don't have much bearing on the rankings. This loss won't affect Azarenka's rank. As for a 250 tournament it's the ATP and not the WTA that rates and ranks the tournament. The 250s are small ass tournaments that the top players usually don't play. A 500 tourney you get some good players. A 100 is the Masters series and all the top players play in them. The higher the tourney the bigger the prize money and points.

This is exactly the kind of information I was seeking. I don't know dick about Tennis though although I do seem to be pretty good at handicapping the games, but how would I be able to determine which tourny is big and which is small.. You mention a 250 is a small tourny and a 500 is a bigger tourny... where can i seek out this information to determine the difference between the small/big tournys?

You shouldn't be betting a sport you don't know anything about.

And by a 250 tournament, I meant that its a very small tourney in regards to money being made. ATP ranks them, but like MUHerd mentioned, WTA doesn't. But this is the equivalent of a 250-Ranked tourney in the ATP.

Winner gets around $100,000 (dont know the exact number off the top of my head.)

Obviously, a person isnt gonna go as hard for a tourney where they win 100k as they would for a tourney where they win 500k like Cincy in a few weeks, or 1mil+ like the US Open.

Why would Azarenka bust her ass in a small tourney, putting the future big tourneys at risk?

In that case... Who do you think wants to win this more? Azarenka, who 3 or 4k victory doesnt mean anything? Or the no name girl who doesn't have much money to her name and would be the biggest win of her life?

-900 in a scenario like this is a horrible bet.
