    Betting on sports in England..

Are there really corner sportsbooks near soccer stadiums where you can make a wager, grab a pint or 2 ,then walk into the stadium, ticket in hand and cheer for you team? Never been to Europe and one day would love to go and was just wondering if thats how it is? Or is totally different in some way I'm totally missing?

In the UK you can place bets in most of the big stadia now. Or you can bet in a betting shop on any high street. Not sure about the rest of Europe.

Get over to England, have a beer and a bet & almost anywhere you go to a sports venue, there will plenty of high street betting shops in or around the stadium.

When I go to London I usually pop in a Ladbrokes in the middle of the city and throw a little $ down on a baseball game.

the british attitude towards sports betting is the most sensible in the world, along with ireland and australia, i think these are the only truly free countries , where you can have an account anywhere. Lots of other countries have legal betting , but you have to do with the bookies in that country or another approved country

    That is not the case.
In recent years, the big UK books have moved their online operations to places like Gibraltar to reduce their tax exposure. The 'licensing' proposal is an attempt to reverse that.

No stipulated maximum bet - you will be allowed a big bet, and there are many bookies so you could spread your wager around if necessary.
All winnings from betting is free of british taxes.

Have a look at websites such as William Hill and Ladbrokes (these are the biggest two shop chains). They will have lines for televised matches and bowl games, but not a full slate every weekend. Bear in mind that if you go into a regional high-street shop and ask to bet college football you are quite possibly the first person in many years (or ever) to do so. It will certainly take phone calls to the trading dept and the likely bet they accept will be quite small as they take almost no action on US college sports. You're not going to stay under the radar.

Of course, if you want to bet UK horse-racing or Premier League "soccer"...

Yes so basically if I have 30 outs including other books not based in europe such as pinnacle. If you need to be licensed then its possible I will no longer have access to books like pinnacle.

No. It will not come to that.

The 'tax' that is being avoided is actually contributions to the UK Horse Racing levy. The very worst thing that I could see happening is the non-licensed books would not be able to:

    a) take bets on UK Horse Racing
    b) advertise to UK consumers.

In addition there may be restrictions on allowing deposits by ************.
