anyone here a card counter or really learned how to do it properly

makes sense if the game becomes positive EV

I'm guessing it would take a year to really learn it to play "perfect"

Just curious. I have only run into a card counter once that I know of and he lost that session but I would not expect to win every session.

Problem is the penetration when cutting the cards after the shuffle. To make card counting effective, you need too deal 75% of the deck. Casino's deal only half the deck, if that, which makes card counting worthless. Back 25-30 years ago, you could make money counting cards, but that's gone now, been gone, for many years.

"perfect" play will only come to those who are naturally talented and/or devote a lot of time and practice to it. Profitable play should come quickly. Some fairly easy ways to earn $20 an hour with the most basic hi-lo count (and 55% pen). From there it is definitely possible to move up to $50 to $100 per hour. How many hours it can be done for without heat is a whole other issue

Not with the deck penetration nowadays. Card counting is literally worthless.

thanks for the feedback. I know the basic strategy. My host from Caesar's property told me that I could no longer get free weekend stays unless I was averaging $125-150/hour for 4 hours per day. I don't play this much a hand and considered learning to be sharper in order to keep the free rooms. It just seems like Caesar's has turned every screw. The Diamond level is not worth much today. I guess the good news is that not getting free rooms will just keep me away from the usual 6 to 8 trips per year.

Many years ago 3 friends and I spent a few weeks practicing and then hit a casino and not only won but had a great time for 3 days.

We were only 18 or 19 and all played together and it was so obvious that on day two they limited our max bet to $100 but let us play on.

I think it was only 3 decks in those days, maybe 4.

This was about 1983 and I came home with 5k profit. Which was a new car in those days. 2 of the other guys did better than me and one played a 12k hand of BJ as we were walking out the door to lose most of his winnings (and whine at the rest of us all the way home).

Not sure why they didn't stop us. I suspect that we just looked young n dumb and were having a lot of fun.

Yes. It’s not difficult to learn. In the last 15 years the availability of quality games at low limits has basically vanished. You used to be able to find $5 6D, DAS, RSA and sometimes even S17. Now you can only find those games in the same abundance at $25. For those just starting, this prices a lot of people out.

Even the best counters often have losing sessions. You are hoping to flip a game from -0.5% to +1.5%.

Even with IDEAL card counting you will have losing sessions. You can even have a bunch in a row.
Remember, when you have a good count, the dealer can also get those 10s and Aces.
However, if you played MANY MANY sessions/hand with a good count, you will end up winning.
