    BetOnline Dispute

My bet on ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS (vs CINCINNATI REDS) from last night was graded a loss.

The game was 5-4 ARIZONA in the top of the 8th when it was suspended due to rain.

Anyone else with this issue? Their rules simply state that games are official after 5 innings.

    Thanks

Are you saying that your bet was on Arizona and it was graded a loss? Not sure why game suspended anyway, as often are called official after five innings. I can understand if game graded as push depending on sportsbook's rules as to game having to be completed the same day. Not sure how they can justify a game in which Arizona won being called a loss though. I must say this is a weird situation though, as Arizona was losing going into the suspended inning, then took the lead and the inning was not completed.

Yes I bet Arizona and it was graded a loss. Seems very wrong. Will likely be filing a dispute, just looking for others experiences...

Just guessing but I think the 8th inning didn't count as it was not completed and Cinn was winning before that.

Mine was graded a loss as well.

I took a careful look at their baseball rules (Baseball Rules (betonline.ag) and nowhere is it stated that they grade based on the score of the last completed inning.

Furthermore the game was completed today (Dbacks won). There is a provision in the rules that games will be graded based on final results should the game be finished the following day, although it seems to be reserved for playoff games.

I went ahead and Tweeted it out after getting nowhere with BetOnline support. If anyone agrees with our position, please help by retweeting, adding your betslips, etc.

Be interesting to see if anyone comes forward and says they were paid for Cincinnati to win.
Maybe ask them if they can provide the official score and try to figure it out from that?

Baseball goes back to the last completed inning after the 5th. I have seen quite a few folks not understanding that and see a couple of books addressing the matter with messages once you log in. Betonline apparently is not one of those books.

BetOnline makes no mention of this in their rules. A simple "game is graded based on last completed inning" would suffice, but is absent.

Yeah .....they(and many other books) must take it for granted that people know that. There has been quite a bit of blow back from this game from Vegas to Costa Rica and everywhere in between. But it is what it is.....a tough beat for you and everyone else that had Zona.

The standard rule for baseball betting is to revert back to the last completed inning in that situation. Their rules are sloppy if they don't mention that. Some of the new US books make up their own rules.

"For any instances not mentioned here, Las Vegas wagering rules apply" probably covers it.

Meaning that if anything otherwise is not explicitly stated in the rules, should be graded as Reds win 4-3 as that would be Vegas Standard grading. Let me check BOL rules.

*For future reference*: So the fact the game was finished today doesn't matter? I am a bit confused. Never seen this situation before.

Oh wait, I just realized you had ARIZONA :doh

In that case, BOL is correct. This is standard, when the ROAD team takes the lead in the uncompleted inning, the "betting score" reverts to score after last completed inning so Reds win 4-3 for betting purposes.

Also suspensions during regular season are not recognized, only in post-season are bets held open until completed on future date.

Does not matter except for post-season.

As Optional said, anything not stated otherwise automatically reverts to Vegas Standard. So really it is only necessary to state house exception rules.

And the reason this game was suspended is the very reason that is causing the betting confusion LOL. The ONLY time games are suspended when called after 5 innings is when the road team takes the lead in an inning not completed. If that did not happen, game would have been Final for MLB purposes too.

One of the shadiest things I ever saw was way back when Earl Weaver was managing (umpires' favorite manager). I forget the opponent, but teams were playing in the rain and Orioles were down by one run in the top of the 8th inning and had runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. At that point the umps ordered the tarp on the field even though the rain remained steady but did not really intensify. Game never resumed and O's lost.

If you've read my posts you'll know I've had to deal with BetOnline customer service more than anyone and they are not ones to contextualize anything. They've stiffed me quite a lot. However I am willing to bet they did grade the Reds as a win on that game and would definitely not reverse this because of the complaints it would generate from the other side. I would consider this bad luck and move on.
If you read the thread, you would have seen that this wager was graded correctly.
