When it does become legal, will offshore books actually be legal? Or will they have to be state side?

have you ever been to the panhandle of Oklahoma
have you ever been to the center of Mississippi
    and most importantly
have you ever been to Manhattan and driven by the building the NFL keeps it's headquarters in

    Maybe 2050?
By then it might loosen up.

I hope otherwise - with good line of course - but until then I'll see you offshore or LV!

sites who broke the rules previously will be blacklisted and will not be given a liscence.

On the other hand...I'm sure sites like bet fair will open up shops here and be allowed.

I think well see around 6-7 years from now.

Are you really that stupid? As the economy continues to be terrible, they are going to need to legalize it as all other countries have it regulated and legalized, and there will be someone at some point who makes everyone realize just how much $$ they are losing out on.

I think sportsbooks at casinoes will be legalized nationwide within 5 years, and within 7-8, it will be legal online.

I can hardly stomach buying tennis futures 3mths out or I'd love to get a line for this with you. I don't think it'll happen any time soon in the US. Chiefly because there is a powerful religious base that permeates throughout the country. As long as gambling has the stigma of being 'bad' and people keep reciting Bible verses of Jesus going into that gambling den, it's simply not going to happen. The other countries where it has = Christianity is not prevalent and the political system is *slightly* a bit more pure.

I have to disagree with you there. Throughout the country? Not really....Yes, there is the bible belt but that is only what? 1/3rd of the country, probably less then that. Once New Jersey gets it legalized- which could take anywhere from 1 to 5 years- it will lead into many other states doing the same. Rhode Island, where I live, has been trying to legalize sports betting for years now... same with Massachusetts. Iowa has also tried for it, and California is too.

I hate how people think the religious freaks in the south run the country. Louisiana and Mississippi have huge casinos.... Are you trying to tell me Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas have this much control? I don't think so.... The thing that is stopping it from being legal is that damn law that came into affect in 1992, and the power of the NFL. The 1992 Law (which for some odd reason I can't remember the name) is a direct violation of the US Constitution and when NJ takes it to court, they WILL win. Its easy for the NFL to stop one state from doing it.. but when they are looking at 15-20 states coming together to overrule it, they won't matter as much.

As online gambling, there has been a huge # of bills that have been brought to congress over the last few years.... Its only a matter of time before online poker is legal..

I think that for it to be legal nationally, you would need a politician with the balls to stand up to the religos and the extreme right. Just because certain states are designated 'the Bible Belt' doesn't mean that feeling doesn't permeate. No one will succeed properly. Like you said: RI has been trying to legalise it for years. On paper, it should be black and white. Money coming into the government's coffers = more beneficial than money going offshore. However it's not happening. Why? Same with the other states you mentioned. Trust me, I've followed this all as well. I moved from Canada to Florida - a place full of transients from the supposedly more couth and educated up north and immigrants. Religious. California? I lived there too. I'd say they'd be last on the list. Too many connections to Nevada.

I'd loved to be proven wrong Brian. You said 7-8 years and I'm saying negative ghost rider. However it would be the best thing for my friends who have basically turned into double agents to get down sizeable bets across the world. Like I said, I'd make this bet if I didn't have a major aversion to futures so we'll just have to friendly shake on it

I'd hate to be wrong... At some point, I'm going to have to make a decision to either move to Nevada (which i hate), move to Canada (which is too cold), move to a Caribbean country where I can place bets legally and open up a hotel or something, or stay in the northeast quit betting and focus on poker & horses.

I mean.. I have people who make bets for me at Pinnacle and Bet Fair, but I don't like it obviously.... Have to make a decision eventually if it continues to look bleak.

Yeah I know. It was something I really had to think about when I decided to move from here and go figure, jj was a big help in sorting out what I needed to do just to protect myself in case I end up back in the US some day. It's really a mess. Here in Australia for example we don't pay tax on gambling income. Legitimately. However we can't live bet online or play online casinos or online poker apparently. (although some overseas books just ignore those rules). But the Aussie books and legit bookies at the racetrack pay so much in licensing fees and taxes themselves that it's not even a thought for the government. There are so many models out there for the US to follow. They can just cherry pick the pieces that work best for them even to slowly introduce the concept piece by piece yet it's not happening. Such an amazing country with the biggest brainiacs in the world congregated there yet they're watching their dollar tumble vs world currencies and the economy continue to tank and no one is willing to champion this one element that could make a somewhat significant contribution to the financial progress of the US. I really don't get it.

Its bs how this country can tell us that we can bet sports on and off line. What we do in our free time is up to us.
