Plenty of scam sites are licensed. I trust SBR's ratings and my own dealings with the site over a license from a third world country.

That's right, Costa Rica does not offer any gaming licenses.

The Australian Capital Territory licences and regulates bookmakers as those punters with funds at Sports Alive have found out

For what it's worth, Panama licenses and regulates sportsbooks in their country. Legends Sportsbook is based in Panama and has an A+ rating from SBR.

Pinnacle is licenced and regulated by the Government of Curacao.

You can't sign up at Pinnacle in the US. Bookmaker and 5Dimes—both continual top 5's as voted by the SBR posters—are based in Costa Rica.

On the subject of licenses, I wouldn't let a little emblem make your decision on where to play. Plenty of books that had a license went bust; it's not just Malta books either, most recently SportsAlive flatlined while having a proper license in Australia.

I thought I read recently somewhere that Pinnacle was moving to Aldernay or Gibraltar.

Apparently a license in Curacao is not as desirable as a European license.

5Dimes is a great book. They always pay and don't need to be regulated. If they don't pay then word gets out and they go out of business. That's how the free market works. And what a stupid thread. Like it matters whether you send money to another country and their gambling site is regulated. Good luck getting ripped off on an internet gambling site and then filing a complaint with a country you don't live in.

as an FYI Lou - a Malta license isn't worth using to wipe your ass with, the LGA makes IBAS seem player-friendly

That's because they are not liars like other companies. They are in CR. Costa Rica does not offer sportsbook licenses.
Some companies in CR say that they are licensed and regulated in their jurisdiction being in CR.

You dont need a license to serve the americas but you do need a good reputation.

Thought I read somewhere just recently that LGA has picked up its act substantially of late?
