Betfair ans SMarkets have absolutely same prices, but
+SMArkets commision is only 2% while Betfair is 5%
+No complaints for now and fast payments.
-Slow time to settle the bets
-The owners are fair ,but they dont have much money in the bank like Betfair

They switched to 2% on Monday so I've signed up now. The odds were pretty much the same as Betfair on the Arsenal-Leeds match but the 2% put a bit more cash in my pocket. Betting against the 0-0 was a good move! Thanks Thierry!

I think I'll stick with them for a while and report back later.

    Hi everyone,

I work for Smarkets and was granted permission to post on this board in order to address the questions you have.

With regards to the claims that we have software that places bets on Betfair: this isn't true. There's no rule that says exchanges have to have different odds. What we are offering is similar (and in some cases, the same) odds as other exchanges with a lower base-commission. And regarding what happened during the recent Betfair downtime, one of our main market makers hedges via Betfair, so users had to go peer-to-peer for awhile.

We've improved the site search so that upcoming football and horse races automatically show up and we're working on fixing it so that it orders events chronologically.

A link to our API in progress can be found here: http://smarkets.github.com/

As you have probably read, we dropped our commission to a flat rate of 2% this week. This makes us the exchange with the lowest base-commission in the industry.

Other things we're working on: a mobile site, multi-currency, and offering more markets for you to bet on.

Please let us know if you have questions. We value any suggestions and constructive criticism users and potential users offer, as we want to improve!

    Thanks,

    Smarkets

    Hi all,

We are throwing an open house at the end of January in London. This would be a great time for you to meet us and let us know what you're looking for in a betting exchange. We'll have drinks (beer) on hand, as well as some food. You can check out the full details here: bit.ly/zYsCID

Hope to see some of you out!

Hi Jason - are the EUR accounts fixed or is there a quasi EUR/GBP floating about in the background?

They do Tommy albeit there are no markets for wombat racing.

The only geographical restrictions they have are for the US and Turkey.

Thanks mate, I just made an acct about an hour ago. Deposited a small amount to see what these guys are like.

Not having wombat racing is a bit of a bummer as that's where I make most of my $$$.

What are your thoughts so far 4lengths?

Hi we wait to settle horse races until after the weigh in, to avoid the possibility of resettlement if a runner were to be disqualified.

So then they aren't really EUR accounts in the sense that if I deposit €500 to you its a floating GBP amount against the peg that was in place when I made the initial deposit and if EUR/GBP tanks then my balance will reduce?

Hi Chachi, I think we might have misunderstood your initial question about EUR accounts being fixed. Your account is kept in EUR currency - it does not increase or decrease due to currency fluctuations.

Biggest problem is that they don't accept accounts in Euros. Also, they would try to be covered by all alert services, so bigger players would join them.
Hi Georgeor - we do accept accounts in Euros.

Thanks for the suggestion. While we do not have a time line to implement Neteller at the moment, we have many other options available. You can currently deposit using major d and c cards, moneybookers and DBT.

Just about any international game be it Test, ODI or T20 and of course any of the local T20 events such as the Big Bash or IPL. I'm sure you know just how much money is traded on these games. Thanks.

We're working on adding a regular slate of cricket games. Right now we have a few up there and will try to add more. Thanks for your feedback.

Will be nice to adding more markets in soccer and in tennis. Like asian handicap and which player score a goal in soccer, and in tennis adding handicap of games and the market of the total games of the match in tennis.

Relating to the fees that they have I agree if it will be to remain the 2% comission, but I'm pretty sure that they will have much more money won for them in the next months...and who knows that with that, they can at least reduce the fee of moneybookers withdraw

A good addition too is Basketball! Because recently (in the last week I thing) this sport desappears from Smarkets!

Apart from that, I'm very satisfied with smarkets! I've won a lot of money so far and hope to continue to do so!

By the time you add money transfer fees, they are no different to betfair basic rates. PC puts a different light on things ofc.

    Anyone use their API?

just made an account there, it seems nice. in my opinion you can add snooker, tennis and some more markets on football f.e. the win both halves market.

officialsmarkets, why dont you comment something about that post? also, i have one more question: why the amount of matched bets and liquidity is not visible?
eventhough i have an account at smarkets and seems good i would like to know some more things before i deposit my bankroll. also, i believe that after betfair left many countries as an exchange most people will go to smarkets and their volume will increase a lot in 1-3 years from now..

    I made that claim.

Smarkets are now publicly claiming that they don't close winning accounts, they only happened to close my account because I said that I would make a complaint to the LGA if they did. By the way making a complaint to the LGA is within any client's rights as per the LGA Player's Charter.

I think this email from Smarkets management shows who's telling the truth here:

It appears I'm not being clear. I'm asking you to stop trading until
you provide liquidity or until I can get more liquidity providers. I
understand the principles of free markets but we are a small startup
who has not yet reached critical mass.

I will put a freeze on your account if I have to but I'm asking
nicely. I think I've been pretty honest with you. I would appreciate
    some courtesy.
