I thought Moneybookers would not do transactions to gambling sites for USA customers. Isnt skrill just a rebrand for MB?

I could very well be wrong. I thought USA residents could use MB but not for gambling. Skrill is rebrand of MB. I would have thought it would be the same but I have been wrong before.

You can't open a gaming account with Skrill/Moneybookers as a US resident. Go ahead and try to fund a sportsbook account with your Skrill account. It simply won't let you do it.

Be careful if you have somebody else making bets for you; pretty sure that information is not completely private. I'd transfer via another method if you are thinking of setting up foreign accounts.
