Where do people bet the most?

I would like to know if people use an Exchange or a Sportsbook more when the bet.

Sorry if this has been done, i haven't seen it if it has.

    Define "people".

Sharps bet wherever they find the best line (taking safety and limits into account of course), which is usually reduced vig shops and/or exchanges when available or square books with juicy lines.

Squares bet wherever they happen to have an account/local and don't pay too much attention to lines/vig.

Anyone who bets online, if its 10cents or millions of dollars, doesn't matter. The posters of SBR who post and vote in polls, its where you bet not what type of bettor you are.

My point was that the type of bettor you are dictates where you bet.

I get what you are saying. The thing is people do have a preference, each to their own. I for one prefer sportsbooks even though I first started betting at an exchange. Just something interesting to see what people in general like better.

As has been said - wherever the highest odds are - most of the time it's asians or pinny. While exchanges do come close - when I account for the % commission, the books I mentioned still do come ahead most of the time. That doesn't mean I don't use exchanges - but I'd say 2/3 of my volume goes to the books that have the highest odds... and 1/3 goes to exchanges where I secure profits

so what good is it ?

isn't it more important to understand why ?

and perhaps even educate some who may not know there's a better way ?

Make an educational thread about the positives and negatives of exchanges and sportsbooks then, as i said its a simple preference poll. vote and go, if people have a question answer it. you don't need to try and bully people into something to have their minds made up by you. They aren't idiots and will make their own decisions, if its different to yours you really have no say in it. get over it and move on.

Your questions also sound like accusations a SHILL would say that represents exchange companies. Thats not what the thread is for.

I do know actually, like all books some people have had a different experience. BUT, the majority actually like it. This thread isn't about them either, you brought them up. But anyways, lets see how you pester me after this post.

I hate exchanges, there are only major leagues and basic bets (moneyline, full time total etc.) but generally I can't find my bets on the exchange.(BF or MB) even if I find it, there are a lot of juice because of the liquidity.
a typical american bettor like taking full time totals and moneylines also he/she interested in major US leagues so MB is enough.
a typical european bettor like taking soccer bets and BF is good place for him but I dislike soccer bets. my biggest market is european basketball and local european leagues (turkish, spanish, italian, greek leagues and european cups) also I take a lot of quarter and half time bets but exchange doesn't offer.
If a bettor interested in various local league and quarter, HT bets exchange is not his place.

I would rather be a square using sportsbooks than an illiterate exchange using buffoon who includes a space before punctuation. God that shits me. Hareeba while you seem to be a knowledgeable bettor, you come off as a nagging woman with how much you shill for betfair. It's not the be all end all of sportsbetting. Different strokes for different folks, each to their own and all that.

As gangeriver said, exchanges don't cover all markets. I mostly play MMA props, AFL/NRL margins, spreads and totals, all of which aren't usually offered on an exchange.

Well thanks for the explanation at least.
I have never claimed BF to be the be all and end all.
Of course it depends on what you want to bet on.
In fact in another thread I have been demonstrating to Todd for months that BF is next to useless for US sports.
It my however interest you to know that I manage to do a lot of betting on AFL and NRL at BF, partly because the bookies (such as Sportsbet) limit me to buggery but also because I can actually get better odds and plenty of liquidity at BF. But yes, although they offer margin, their liquidity isn't great.
