French ISPs ordered to block access to 5Dimes.com

The Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris has ordered French ISPs to block access to unlicensed online gaming operator 5Dimes.com.

How are the french with online betting?
Is it possible from France to use unlicensed bookmakers?

I wonder if the recent developments involving online poke in the US have anything to do with this.

Depends if the book will allow you to have a French mailing address, etc. If the only thing standing in your way is the ISPs banning access, you should be able to get to the sites via VPN.

i know some of these sites are bodogs man. calvin. but bodog has offices in europe.

but here is the main blockage from what i can see, why 5dimes is not complying with the france government.

    http://www.gaminglaw.eu/actuality-31...ors-by-th.html

so i think frecnh law basically prohibits 5 dimes from operating in france. but 5 dimes is operating there. and has the website in french.

this from the articles. listed above.

sigh. this internet gaming law, and regulation is still in the dark ages.

Several Western European countries are banning non-State run gambling sites, I believe. Or have already done so.

No. Some countries want to monopolize gambling by blocking all non-state runned sites

No, some EU countries, like France, are breaking the free trade EU laws by blocking sportsbook regulated in the EU

if the united states can't stop 5dimes, i don't think france can, betfair and pinnacle just bow down to every government, but france is probably a very small part of their biz

I think Italy also blocks a lot of gambling sites that are not licensed.

A lot more books stopped taking French players, including the shitty UK books like Bet3.65.
That is cos they would have to pay some kind of tax, get licenses for all the sports they offer to french players...yea it's a big load of horseshit.

Betfair was forced by a law that declared Exchanges in particular illegal, as you can see France is as bad as the US now.

The french are highly regulated from what I've heard - and only licensed operators can work there and they have to pay taxes on total money traded - which obviously is highly prohibitive to the betting business... that's why when you see something like bwin.fr you see their odds at crazy levels like 1.77/1.77 (instead of the rest of the eu scammers that are closer to 1.88/1.88 levels and obviously pinna is at the 1.95/1.95 levels). No wonder 5dimes doesn't want to get licensed. However, as has been pointed out - if it's just an isp block... a proxy or vpn will always do the trick.
