    AssAn's soccer thread

I've been following some threads on SBR the past couple of weeks, and I'm doing pretty good, so I thought I'd share my picks with you.
(by the way, I'm from Europe so my quotation is probably different then yours)

    Holland 2
    Go Ahead Eagles 2.0 1U
    SBV Excelsior 1.95 3U

    Turkey
    Galatasaray 1.85 1U
    Points Awarded:

Gargamel gave AssAn 1 SBR Point(s) for this post.

    Hello, and good luck.

Care to explain a bit on Excelsior? How come you're so confident on them that you play 3U? I'll tail if you have some good info!

    - their previous game, against FC Oss, they played very well, but drawed 4-4. So they'll want to get revenge.
    - Telstar's coach has recently been fired, now they have an "interim-coach".
    - the previous game of Telstar, against Fortuna Sittard (another relegation candidate), they lost 2-0, and Fortuna didn't have a couple of their strong players. Also Telstar missed (and still does) a couple of their strong players.
    - Telstar lost 8 of their previous 9 games
    - Telstar has a very bad home-record
    - Telstar and Excelsior are nearby, so there will be a lot of Excelsior fans in the stadium

as you can see, it's not really the quality of Excelsior that makes me confident, but it's the lack of quality of Telstar that makes me think they're going to lose.

    wauw, both teams tied..

    1-6-0 -4.15U

Charleroi can't lose tonight, if they do, I got a problem..

    03/10/10

    Belgium

    Charleroi 2.15 4U

Lokeren misses Doll (their captain) and Leko (their playmaker) and Mboyo (Charleroi) is on great form, Bayat (manager of Charleroi) told the press that the players will have to show their skills, or otherwise he will be looking for new players next season. If Charleroi loses this game, they're heading for relegation. Lokeren have a big scoring problem, especially with Leko out. Copa (GK of Lokeren) said Lokeren would be happy with 1 point, never a good sign.

Assan, you should recheck your record, you are doing it all wrong. Before Chaleroi game you were down -4.15 units, you won that game adding 4.6 units, so you should have been +0.45 units, not +4.45 units. Same for Grrasfchap game, you played it at 1.50 with 3 units, that means you won 1.5 units, not 4.5 units.

    03/04/10

    Belgium

    SV Zulte Waregem 2.55 2U

Standard de Liege are missing Defour (injured), Mbokani and Sarr (suspended). Defour is very important for Standard, he's their captain and a very big workforce on the midfield. Without Mbokani the attack will mostly depend on Jovanovic, who said he's too tired to play. The suspension of Sarr means the central defenders will be 18 and 19 years old, so not really experienced. Zulte Waregem needs a win to be certain of playing the play-offs 1, Standard too but they don't care, they only care about Europe.

    Sint-Truiden 2.00 2U

Goor (Beerschot) is still out with an injury, without him they lack personality, they don't have a real leader. Haroun (Beerschot) isn't in shape yet after his injury, and Beerschot really needs his creativity. Beerschot's defence is slow and there's a lot of space between midfield and defence, the quick attackers and midfielders of Sint-Truiden should be able to exploit this.

    Holland 2

    FC Den Bosch 2.10 3U

    Italy

    AS Roma 1.80 2U

To begin, some extra info: the Belgian 1st soccer league is constructed with play-offs, and there are 2 types of teams in the second play-off group: teams who care, and teams who don't care. Because, if you're in play-off 2, you have nothing to lose, and only little to win. So there are a couple of teams who use the play-offs to make up for a bad regular season, but there are also a couple of teams who use the play-offs to give some youngsters a chance.

Charleroi - Germinal Beerschot: Both teams are typical examples of what I said 2 sentences ago. Charleroi has a decent team (Their president said in the pre-season they were aiming for Europe) and 2 players in good shape (Thereau and Mboyo), but they had a terrible regular season, they almost relegated (that's ofcourse why their odds are so high). Beerschot is the best example of a team who uses this play-offs to let some youngsters play. Last week they played with a 17-year old goalkeeper and a 16-year old midfielder. + they still have the same problems I mentioned 2 posts up. Also, they already know that the manager is going to get fired after this season, and that's never good for the moral of the players..

Genk - Standard de Liège: Genk is in the same situation as Charleroi: not a bad team but a horrible regular season, so very motivated to show their fans something. And Standard, they're playing great in Europe, but they don't give a shit about the Belgian league. And why would they.. they're the first Belgian team in years to do this good in Europe. Mbokani already said he actually doesn't want to play in play-off 2, Jovanovic' head is already months with Liverpool and the world cup with Serbia, Defour is still injured, etc. And probably half of the Standard players are leaving after this season, so why would they care if Standard qualifies for Europe next season or if they don't.. Also, Genk-Standard is a derby, a real classic. All Genk-players and fans will be extra motivated. But most of the Standard-players doesn't care, they've just played against Hamburg, Genk means nothing to them, half of the players think they're international stars now..
BUT, keep in mind, 2 quick flashes of Mbokani, Jovanovic or Witsel and they could easily win this game..
