Since the loss to Colombia all I've seen on sites are articles about how much the US needs to win this game but what about how much Costa Rica has to win this game? Did some digging last night and also this morning and I've come up with many reasons and explanations as to why I think Costa Rica wins.....

Costa Rica has won the last two meetings and comparing the line-ups from those games and USA vs Colombia and C.R. vs Paraguay line-ups for USA have changed 5 players. C.R. line-up 3 players .
Costa Rica is coming off that Cinderella WC run they made in 2014 and have returned a lot of key players from that team as well as gained key players. After WC coach was fired for nonsense but the new coach Ramirez is just as defense oriented as his the prior coach. He coaches league team Alajuelense. They have continued to play extremely well after WC 2014. Already promoted to the next stage of WCQ's with an impressive group record of 3-1-0 7:2 wins vs Jamaica, Haiti, and Panama. USMNT currently 2nd place in group stage 2-1-1 10:3 but their group is much weaker and for them to be in 2nd says a lot.

Ok now that I got stats outta the way time for the fun part..

Jurgen Klinnsman....where to start.....his 1st key decision as head coach cut one of the most exp'd and arguably best player to come out of the US(when Donovan wasn't taking league of absences) Klinnsman reasoning behind this Donovan wasn't fit and there were better options...also because he wanted to prepare the younger squad for 2018...His "testing" line-ups which ultimately translates to I have no idea how to get this line-up correctly. Take the Colombia game for example he publicly came out and said his strategy for the Copa is to play defense 1st half and then in 2nd half try(his actual words are try) to score once subs are brought in. So for close to an hour the only chance they may get to a shot is if Dempsey can run like he did when he was 23 and his counter attack was awesome but he's not 23 and he has lost a few steps. The lack of offense or actually the nonexistent offense vs Colombia shows I'm not just saying this to say it there is actual evidence this system Klinnman is using is not working. I saw his press conference yesterday and he doesn't plan on changing anything. The US in the 1st half had 0 SOGs 0 Corner Kicks and his defense 1st well I guess Colombia didn't get the memo because they managed 5 SOG scoring 2. I really liked when USA brought Klinnsman to coach I remember watching the 94' WC when Germany won he played great and he did bring the US the furthest they've ever gone in WC but I think he expects too much from his players and unfortunately the US talent vs the world's talent we aren't on the same radar. I think Pulisic is a future star but Klinnsman sees the bigger picture and we as Americans need immediate results not 4-8 years from now. Part 1 over lol no tv+ tropical storm overhead = this i guess..

Costa Rica has a great chance to either draw or win outright and they need the win just as much as the US. Here's why I think Costa Rica may upset more than just USA tonight...

Alot of key players are returning from that Cinderella story WC run. Duarte, Gamboa, and Acosta were some key's to that defensive 5 man back line. Adding to the line is NYC FC up and comer Mataritta who has 11 starts in his 1st season in MLS. One player who missed WC because of a broken leg is Everton defender Oviedo who has played well in EPL. Although they will be missing their star player Real Madrid goalie Navas, I don't think they will have much to worry about when they will only have to deal with USA's "offense" for at most 35mins so combine those factors and the US scoring a goal tonight may be the toughest thing they will try to do this Copa.
Costa Rico's offense is modest at best they do have their moments if Ruiz and Campbell(who has scored on US before) can show off their playmaking skills and with the midfield coming together US can be beaten I don't think we will see an early goal but with expect a late goal and it may come from a familiar face to MLS fans veteran DC United striker Saborio who may get his chance late in the 2nd hald if starting forward Urena plays as he did for 90' vs Paraguay.

Worth of noting: C.R. will be without newcomer and Vancouver defender Watson after being sent off late vs Paraguay. Also 3rd string goalie Pemberton gets his 2nd Copa start but he is the starter for Alajuelense head coach Ramirez club team. So i"m sure if there was any doubt about his skill he wouldnt be the coach starter on club team. One last thing to note I read an article about how loud Solider Field gets for soccer games and how the US fans will make their presence known....Chicago has a significant amount of Costa Rican Americans living in Chicago also the last match US v CR in US was played in New Jersey to a attendance of 9,214 at the Red Bull arena.. ..well I'll either be a pariah or idiot savant after this pick so here it is....

if you choose to also take the draw or take CR +.5 to protect the bet either choice works I'd just make sure your math is right. 1 unit to me is $50 so +400 I have the chance to win $200 if I choose to take both draw and CR $50 +230 = $110 .. Agree with you Stack....I couldn't believe Donavon was released, but we keep a player like Bradley who consistently makes critical turnovers in the middle of the field giving other teams odd man counter opportunities. Overall, this US team's technical skills are weak.....bad passing, poor first touches.....it's painful to watch. I'm tailing you with Costa Rica.....you're right....they need this game just as bad as the U.S. CR isn't the most talented team either, so a draw would be no surprise here. But if the U.S. plays like it did against Columbia, 1-0 CR will be good enough. Good Luck to us!

2 of USA's 3 best technically gifted players dont even start in Nagbe and Pulisic and their 3rd plays out of position at left back. Which is understandable because there is no one else to play there. But man, a right side of Zardes and Yedlin... How are they ever able to keep possession of the ball... But I agree, if Nagbe doesn't get the start in the middle Im going to go with Costa Rica for half unit and draw for half. Nagbe starts Itll prolly be a no play for me
