Guys I have something really horrible to discuss with you all

I've been gambling on and off for about 8 years now with horrendous results. I lost about 200K over the last 8 years

This year, I put in 50K and hit a crazy hot streak...I had about a 2 month period in NBA where I was winning at like 65% clip. I got 50K up to about 300-400K. On one sunday, I went 1-9 and lost about 100K. I started chasing like crazy and lost the remaining 200-300K

Since then, things have gotten really bad - I took out loans of about 40K and lost another 100K out of my 401k (I'm now down to 50K)

I don't know what to do. I'm so depressed about this whole situation. I make really good money (about 200-230K) working in sales and my fiance will start working as a nurse in 6 months so I'll have about a 280K household income. The income sounds great but I'm so depressed about how much I've lost that it's hard for me to get excited

I know I need to stop gambling and I've finally stopped but how can I get myself out of this hole mentally? I'm 33 years old. I swear to god I'm not lying about anything - I can post screenshots for everything I claimed

Two things, it sounds untrue and you haven't become an SBR Pro yet which doesn't make sense.

    I'm done gambling forever

I just can't handle the ups and downs of it. Other people can go through losses and not chase. I go through any kind of losing streak and start chasing gigantic amounts

Diggity is right, your brain is addicted to the dopamine fix that comes from gambling. Addicts need to trade a bad habit for a less severe habit. Preferably something that involves cardio.

Why not just redeposit after a month but this time go all in on one bet? Tail JJ picks and you'll win. Keep doing this until you're back at even.

I'm setting the odds at -800 he's lying about making 200-230k per year. In the unlikely event he's being honest:

    1. Who'd sympathize with someone making that kind of money via sales. You're likely a dirtbag taking advantage of people if you're earning that kind of money.

    2. Sounds like greed and arrogance is causing you to chase so hard.

    3. If you're earning so much why borrow & why be so down and out sounding (makes zero sense). You're maybe a year away from getting even.

EG if what you say is true, is there a way mentally for you to essentially reset yourself and lower your stakes? Could you pick one play a day and bet it for let's say $100 bucks and continue that routine daily or does the emotional loss outweigh your enjoyment of sports betting and lead you to only increasing stakes thinking about the past?

If it's the latter then you have to take a break from it all and come back better in the future. If you think you can do the former then let's make a thread and pick one play a day for 30 days and see where we are at afterwards. If you aren't ready emotionally then you will quickly disappear which will be information for yourself that emotions are winning and you should be focusing on something else. Your call.

Here we go again. Didn't we argue about your being able to hit 65%? Anything can happen in the short-term. In the long-term , if you make lousy bets you will have lousy results. Luck isn't really a factor.

I only ask about lowering your stakes because in the end most are losing gamblers. People are happy to take money from others and that is just what it is. If you actually enjoy the challenge of sports betting, try to forget the amounts and just enjoy the ride. We can pretend its a million bucks if we have to on each play but just stay in the game and have fun. Sorry the lesson was brutal but college is expensive as well and doesn't always guarantee success so take it in stride. Don't be afraid to make mistakes!! Good luck!
