whats with all these hybrid car commercials

with cars that get like 30 mpg....that's not even good.

That's probably about as low mpg a hybrid could get

Seems to be the trend lately, especially with gas prices supposedly going up higher.

So you end up paying 40k for a car to save 2-3k a year in gas?

That was the surprising thing about the commercial. I figured if they were touting a hybrid it would get 40-50 miles per gallon because there are some cars that get 30 right now.

No way your truck gets 30 mpg on the highway. The most it will do is probably 22. But I know you were exaggerating and I shouldn't bust your chops for it.

And to OP, if it's 30 mpg 'city'.. then that's good. If it's highway, then that car company needs to stick the car up their ass.

Damn!.. Only need to fill up 1 1/2 times a month with that gas per mileage. I think it's time for a new car.

The hybrid technology is one of the most overestimated technologies. The cars are to expensive and the technology only works good in the city. But the most important point is that the hybrid technology is not even more ecological than the ordinary technology is. The most energy that is consumed is to build a car. To build a hybrid car costs much more energy than to build a normal car because of the batteries which not even work for the lifetime of the car. The batteries have to be replaced when they lost too much of their capacities.

i have a 2010 corolla and I am averaging 34.3 mpg right now. my sister has an 07 civic and she averages even more than i do. I know hybrids are good for the environment but what do you do with all the batteries when they are done being used. once a hybrid gets a TON like 80mpg then i might think about one

1st gen honda insight was rated at 70mpg. owners have reported higher mpg than that.

hybrid batteries have been known to last over 400,000 miles so majority of owners will never need to replace it. plus they are recyclable.

I think the age of the batteries is as important as the mileage.

Even if the batteries are recyclable, who says that this takes less energy than the hybrid system saves with the less fuel consumption?

If you buy a Hybrid now, you are buying the auto indutry's version of the 8 track tape player or Beta Max. Wait til they figure out the technology and get the price down to a reasonable level. Automakers save Billions by testing their unproven products and on the consumer.
