That's why any of these holiday's were invented (Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc.). It isn't solely a nice gesture to show appreciation to a certain person. The government wants you to go out and spend, spend, spend on gifts, dinner, flowers, etc. Same thing with governmental holidays like MLK day, President's Day, Columbus Day, etc. They want you go out like good little sheep, and spend more money on a day that you would normally be working on. How many people actually think about Christopher Columbus all day on Columbus Day? Do we all bow down, and give thanks to the Santa Maria, the Pinta, and the Nina? All this does is put extra people, and sometimes children, in the malls to increase sales. That being said, I did buy my wife a present today. LOL!
