At age 18-19, the delusions of grandeur were strong. I often thought about being a professional poker player / gambler. At age 24, I laugh at such a post. Do not rely on gambling as your majority income, even if you are sharp. Building a solid career and a network will make you 100x more than sports betting could. Money does not buy happiness either, even though you might think it does. Those that bet for a living, often are consumed by gambling. Gamblers also die much younger than the average joe. Sure, 1/100 might be able to enjoy life and manage any of the negatives mention, but its very rare.

    Good question.

I remember when I started I had a great first few years especially with the JM nba system. I had the idea in my head I could make easy money every year but then it dawned on me I'm betting at a sportsbook, not a bank. No chance they will let you hit them up for even 50k every year even if the system still worked.

I don't think you can anymore. I think you could in the 80s and 90s when you had every hotel in Las Vegas that had different odds where you can shop around. The internet ruined everything. Now the books don't want winners so if you win they kick you out.Im just kinda guessing.I can only talk horse racing.I played professionally from the early 90s till 2002.I moved to Phoenix and made a great living. But the fields started to shrink information became to widely available. But the early days of you bet were awesome I had access to replays it was great I could play at home. But in 2002 all the angles I learned were dying and again the internet ruined racing all those hours I put in digging up info were all gone. Plus the racing form added to much info.

its not dead its harder, way more competitive. its not you against the fat guy who loves the patriots, its now you against the MIT grads setting lines. its you against the millions of people with excel. our job as bettors is to sharpen the lines more and more, the more we bet and the more games they track, the sharper the line gets.

Also one more thing I found Mountaineer. The early days of the Mountain when they first got slots were fantastic. I played Mountaineer every night all year from 98-02.That place now 5 horse fields and favs every race. Back then all 9 races had 10 horse fields and longshots all night!

its easy to see the room to win and edge
look at an NBA moneyline and get the high and low and you can see they move enough to cover margin and have an edge. so the possibility is there, now can you bet enough at that high low spot, can you bet enough times to overcome variance, can you have enough outs and is this effort worth more than getting a job using the same skills

But once you have a bigger bankroll, you obviously start making more.

It is totally possible even if you are starting with under 2K. It is in no way easy and getting the money out from the Sportsbook is going to be even more difficult than winning the money. I know first hand as I am having issues with Pinnacle as we speak due to low deposit and a very large balance. They are making it next to impossible to withdrawal the winnings. Sad but True!

I think I could do it.

It would probably be best to become a digital nomad and move to thailand, the philippines or somewhere with lower daily cost of living first. That would get rid of those silly USA bans & regulatory restrictions which prevent americans in some US states from playing fantasy sports games like draftkings or fanduel.

Then (maybe) renounce US citizenship to avoid ridiculously high american taxes. You owe the IRS nothing after that but it also sucks because you lose some of the freedoms and rights afforded you as an american.

Then you might be free to make a clean $100k without all that rep tape or worry about anyone getting too upset about it.

A "career" is not going to make anyone 100x what they could earn betting on sports. That's just silly. However, starting a successful business, or buying up a bunch of real-estate, could earn someone 100x, but even that would take many years to achieve.

Yes, $100,000 a year is possible betting sports. 100 x $100,000 = $10,000,000. Please show me a "career" that earns anyone $10,000,000 per year.

It's all about persistence. If you persist, you can succeed at anything. Most people don't persist long enough. Also, maybe sports betting isn't your thing, maybe day trading is, or something else. Find something that you are truly passionate about, and it will be easier to stick with.

to make 100k a year betting you need to have some serious tools and need to be so fricken sharp, you know how hard it is to win against max limits. by the time the line gets to max limits, any profit margin is so low.

I'm actually pretty confident in myself brah... I just started out (have been doing it for 2 weeks and have been betting at around 65%)
65%, this means you are a kid.

tell you what kid, no you can't. next, you will not come anywhere near 65% come December 2019, you probably won't even be 50%. If you think I am full of shit I tell you what. Start a thread and call it my selections until December 2019. List your plays every day, on any sport, any number of plays you want and if you get 65% and I am still alive I will, we all will announce you the greatest gambler of all time.
