Grand Bahama..... island totally under water

videos from official taken at his home show water level on entire island was at 25 feet or so above sea level; pretty much the entire island under water for 36-48 hours....

    island is a total loss....

having a full-blown hurricane stall out on your ass for two days straight is something that is not only unheard of, but totally devastating......

They'll rebuild everything and then in 20 or 30 years it will get wiped out again. Rinse and repeat, literally.

aren't these places under water every year? maybe not as comprehensivea as this year... but this is not new orleans. this water will recede quickly

if you are interested in hurricanes and the gulf, read the book on flagler sp? and his railway to key west (when few lived in miami, but that's another issue). flagler went 7 miles between land at one point... anyway, it didn't end well, but i think it's the basis for the highway to key west. could be wrong on that.

Best book about a hurricane I ever read was “Issac’s Storm.” About the 1900 Galveston storm that killed 10k or more. Great read.

Haven't read the book, but in 1900 would they have had any warning that it was coming?

    No radar yet, so no.

Main resort areas like Atlantis, and cruise islands are okay sounds like. It'll probably work out well for Bahamas. They'll get to rebuild old shitty infrastructure with our tax money.

yah, storm was 90 miles north of nassau, atlantis fine.... minor flooding only....

my aunt has a place on spanish cay (north of little abaco), it's totally wiped out.... and had a 33 ft. offshore boat drydocked in green turtle cay, it's now adrift somewhere in the atlantic ocean......

good time to be a pirate, and commandeer some free-rangin' vessels.....

Hate to see the devastation. The wife wants to go down there next year for the shark petting/ feeding zoo thing, and now that may be on hold. I hope they can pull themselves together and start to rebuild.
