No, it's a glorified pressure cooker. Better than a regular one because it has a lot of different settings and timers. There are a lot of youtube videos showing how to cook stuff with it.

A pressure cooker cooks food fast, unlike a crockpot. If you want something to cook low and slow, a crock is the way to go.

I'm also interested in sous vide cooking, but haven't taken the plunge yet (pun intended).

LOL Yes, I have kitchen scissors. Don't use them an awful lot, but they're handy when spatchcocking a chicken.

My dad got a sous vide about a year ago. Obviously takes a lot longer to cook your food, but it's amazing how tender you can make your meat. He usually does tri-tip, and it turns out great.

The one thing that is really holding me back about it is the meat comes out really bland looking and you have to sear it with a torch or something to get it looking normal.

From what I've heard, you're right about it being tender, though.

You can sear it on a grill.

WE cook almost everything in it, its just a table top convection oven.
its just quick and easy. dont know what bad reviews there were.
We got a bunch ( a pallet of like 60) free from work.
we have cooked everything except liquid stuff in it.
burgers steak roast chicken bacon fish
I do have a meat thermometer to check it to make sure its done
everything comes out good to great and quick with easy clean up
