    Anyone Here Good At Bowling?

I am going Saturday night to Bowlarama. It will be my first time joining a bowling league and bowling. It is an amateur league, our team is the Bowling Stones and our first game is against the Sunset Strokers. Winner goes on. 4 per team. What are some tips that can help me?

Just use 2 fingers... the thumb just gets in the way.

I average about 200, give or take a couple. Be patient, it takes time. I've bowled basically my whole life, started in junior league when I was like 5. There's so much technology in bowling now a days, it's pretty crazy. Oil patterns, different balls hook differently, and the same ball will hook different ways if its drilled differently. If you serious about it, go to the pro shop and talk to the guys there. Depending how you throw, they'll recommend different balls. Honestly, if you're just beginning I'd maybe start by trying to get a cheaper used ball from somebody so you can get comfortable trying to hook it. The plastic house balls won't help at all and there's no sense in spending good money for a new ball that won't work for you. Watch youtube for tips, it's not rocket science, but it's not simple either.

If it is an ABC sanctioned league or tournament that would be a no no. Unless it has been approved by the local league you are bowling in.

Throw the heaviest ball that you can control.

Was in 2 leagues for a few of years. Have a trophy for high game. Team was in 4th place a few times for tournaments.

Each bowler has his/ her own way of throwing. Practise makes perfect. If you don't have a natural hook, don't force it.

    What are you talking about?

Are you saying ABC sanctioned leagues and tournaments wouldn't permit this? Where's your source?

How about the ABC rule book. If there is a hole in the ball you use it. How many pro bowlers do you see not using their thumb hole. Because it is a rule.

    It's no problem.

I know for sure there was a pro bowler on tour who was known for not having his thumb in the ball. Thumb is basically designed to give you more aiming control.

I use to bowl with a guy who also palmed the ball. Didn't use any fingers or a thumb. We had many city tournaments together and there was never an official who told him it wasn't allowed.
