probably a stupid question but i was looking at buying an imac off craigslist and was wondering if you need anti virus software for them. It is a 2009 model. Thanks

Since you know windows, getting a 2009 iMac would be equivalent of getting a gateway PC with windows 95

Why wouldnt you want anti virus software for any computer no matter the age. Make sure you get a firewall.

No, you don't need an antivirus. I've never had an issue with the MACS I've owned. Obviously make sure you only download from sites that you know are safe, like any other computer.

I was just saying yes because youre gonna be online, but I know nothing about MACs and always made it a point to stay away from them, I simply hate everything apple, phones you name it.

I hear ya, nothing wrong with refurbished, Im using one now, Ive had like 4 or 5 of the same computer that was made in like 2012 because I love it, 4 or 5 because Ive spilled coffee on 4 or 5 lol, its rather small and I can carry anywhere no problem, I know some people who swear by MAC and I did see that with what you want they say you dont need antivirus software so I guess you dont need it if you didnt wanna get it.
