Germany on track to get more goals this game than they got the entire rest of the tournament.

Why do you think the line was so far off? Home field advantage being overplayed? As Getlucky said, Nate Silver had them as about 65% to win the game even with the players missing.

What an insane game... Of all the ways the game could have played out, this has to be an outlier right? I mean Algeria held them to 0-0 for 90 minutes!

Yeah, pretty nuts. I stopped watching after the 3rd goal.

Pounded Brazil to not score at +190 live, closed at like -500, then they score in the last minute.

Damn game cost me all of my profit for the month.

Ha Does Nate Silver know anything about football?! He was probably basing it on stats like "Brazil have never lost a game against Germany" and "Brazil havent lost at home in 5 decades...blah blah".

but yee like you say the home advantage was main factor and was definitely exagerrated...people often dont consider the other aspect of being the home nation with all the expectation tho - the added pressure it brings. Always a good chance tht the pressure becomes too much and teams fold. One of the main reasons i bet on germany was because brazil captain and pretty much only leader Thiago Silva was suspended...one of the few players tht you know can deal with pressure. The significance of thiago silva and neymar's absence not being considered enough was also a big factor.

Other factors such as touch of nostalgic/emotional/romantic betting as well...the old "Brazil are destined to win this in honour of Neymar". Also the whole conspiracy thing tht FIFA wanted Brazil to win the competition and tht the ref would aid Brazil. All Just pure conjecture tho. Lets ignore the fact tht this is a brazil side tht on the wholr is rather average and has a combination of players tht are past their prime (like Maicon);overrated players (Luiz Gustavo, Dante, Jo, Fred) players tht can be great but were just not in form (Hulk, Dani Alves) and young talented players who dont know how to deal with any adversity or high pressure situations like this today and go missing when the chips are down (Oscar, Bernard, David luiz).
i could go on with more... An overrated stubborn manager tht is obsessed with certain players such as Fred, and who didnt call up some of the best performing Brazilians in Europe last season such as Filipe and Miranda who were both part of the best defence in the World with Atletico Madrid, tht was just a joke of a decision.

Not to mention the whole rigamarole with him drawing a gun on his wife, got to affect the whole team morale.

Nate wasn't using those sorts of statistics, he's doing a basic power rating. It's interesting because generally player absences are wildly overvalued with the idea that no one will pick up the slack. I'm quite certain you can make a profit just by fading star absence line movement in NBA.

Man chokes to death during hot dog eating competition

Walter Eagle Tail, 47, is believed to have suffocated after the food got stuck in his throat

Walter Eagle Tail died after choking on hot dogs in an eating competition
A man has choked to death while taking part in a hot dog eating competition.
Walter Eagle Tail, 47, died during the contest in Custer, South Dakota, over the Fourth of July weekend when the food got lodged in his throat.
A pie eating contest had been planned for the next in the town, but it was cancelled as a result of Mr Tail's death.
Custer County Sheriff Rick Wheeler said: "There was someone doing CPR when we arrived. Basically he probably just suffocated. It got lodged in his throat and they couldn't get it out.
"It all happened within minutes. I think everybody was pretty well shocked about it."
The Rapid City Journal newspaper described the death as putting 'a damper on the festivities' and organisers are considering changes to the competitive eating contest next year.
Friend Ardis McRae told the paper: "Walter was just being Walter, having fun when he entered this contest. He was just having a good time."
She added that he made people smile and was an outgoing person.
