State of Emergency? You've got to be kidding me.

I went to buy a sandwich and a beer this morning near home (in NC) and was told "no beer" because we are in a state of emergency (because of Sandy, I assume). WTF? There is absolutely no rain or wind right now.

And if there were a state of emergency, that's when the beer would really come in handy.

Sandy always bitched when I used to go on my 2-3 day binges.

That sucks, sounds like you need to stock up during a sale just in case this happens again.

is this is common thing/law in most states

I guess I can see it makes sense, that you might need people to be able to be sober and able to react to instructions on seeking shelter or evacuating.

but in general, holing up and getting drunk while riding out a storm seems like the thing most want to do
