This is a WILD story, fellas. I apologize if its a long post, but I simply need to include all the details.......
I get a text last night around 11:00 from SBR poster Griz that seemed a little strange. Since I'm old and boring, I was already in bed and didn't see it till this morning. So as I'm driving to the office this morning at 7:00, I call Griz to see what this is all about. What I heard next blew me away.
I imagine most of us have seen the vids from Griz and Picker on how they have struck up a friendship since Picker moved to Chicago. Griz tells me he and his girlfriend have had Picker over every weekend since he moved just to be friendly. Griz also let Picker talk him into placing a few bets with his bookie for him. In fact, picker made a video just last week showing off the $3k or so that he said he had won from Griz's bookie. Griz proceeds to tell me that Picker had indeed won a little over $3k off of the guy.....that is, until now!
Last weekend Picker proceeds to lose $3300 to Griz's bookie. Griz says that Picker acted all nonchalant about it, not at all seeming concerned about the funds. It seems Picker had continued his story to Griz about how wealthy his parents are, how he has over $20k of his own in savings, etc.... So Griz isn't worried about Picker paying his debt. In fact he is so unconcerned, that he makes the unfortunate move of allowing Picker to talk him into placing an $8000 WAGER LAST NIGHT ON DENVER +3!! I can imagine by now most of you see where this is headed.......
Griz informs me this morning that Picker began texting him around the 3rd quarter last night saying that all his stories about money have been lies, that he has no way of paying the now $12,000 debt that Griz has incurred on his behalf, and that in real life he is actually broke. Griz attempts to talk about this situation with Picker, explaining to him that this bookie is a serious guy, and that this is a very serious situation. Picker then proceeds to inform Griz that he has a medical condition that causes him to do these things, as well as the fact that he has also saved all his texts from Griz pertaining to gambling, and will not hesitate to go to the police if either Griz or the bookie attempt to harass him about this debt!
So, needless to say, Griz is seriously upset about all this. He asked me my thoughts, and I explained to him that his only course of action is to talk directly to the bookie. Explain the exact situation to him, and see if he will let him set up a payment plan. If the guy is any type of businessman, he will see that this is the best solution.
Griz asked me to post this to see if any of the brethren have found themselves in a similar situation, and if so, what they did about it. He's clearly very concerned over all this, and doesn't know what to do. I already told him there's no use in going over all the mistakes he made in getting to this point, the focus now needs to be on getting out of it.
So, boys.....anyone got any ideas for our brother Griz???
P.S. - I know some are probably questioning the validity of this story, but if you had heard the desperation in Griz's voice.....I think you'd believe its true.
