The Higgs Boson is basically one of the key particles of particle physics, and was always theoretical but they believe that they have actually found proof that is it is real. Good article about it here:

The most basic part of that article is quoted as follows:

The Higgs gives all elementary particles their mass. Physics needs the Higgs. Without it the electron, for instance, would be massless. I follow a few scientists on twitter and it seemed to create excitement for these guys (Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Michio, Brian Cox)

They seemed all fired up about it today.

Some foreigner seems to be putting down some evidence.
DeGrasse was a little chippy himself. He said science "sucks" in America.
