    Since I think most people clearly think losing the 10k is the right choice, this begs the question, how much $ would it have to be before you would take the year in jail? 50k? 100k? I'm not sure what the number is for myself...

    10k ...... The jail will haunt you forever, and a record will follow you everywhere you go....... The 10k could be wiped away with a bankruptcy, or if it is a debt with the wrong kind....... then you could add a job for 3 months.

    10k should be everyone's answer. A better question would be 1M in debt that you can't get rid of in a bankruptcy (the kind of debt that would keep empoyers that run a credit check from hiring you) or jail for a year. Both alter your life but in different ways. Most would still choose freedom, but the question is closer. 10K, mehh....
