    Help Controlling Alcohol

    Hey SBR.
A little background before I start: My name is Paul. I'm from Wisconsin. I turned 21 in late February. I am turning into an alcoholic. I have been going to a psychologist for a few reasons other than alcohol and I just recently started talking to him about my relationship with alcohol. At the present moment, I am drinking about 3-4 liters of whiskey a week, depending on my modes. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice that could help. I don't think I'm quite an alcoholic yet, however, I am certainly on the path that will get me there. I'd appreciate if people could keep their snotty, stupid, and degrading comments to themselves. I am seeking help, not acquiring new problems.

    Thanks,

    CreaturE

I am currently living in my parent's basement and going to college. They go to bed around 8:00-8:30pm every night. As soon as they go to sleep, I'm basically free to do whatever I want. So it's extremely easy to just drink every night and get away with it.

Well...It's what my psychologist said. He's a professional. Therefore, I seem to think it's a legitimate way to look at things.

Obviously something isn't working. That is why I figured I'd just throw out the idea of getting other people's opinions. Thanks for your input.

Ugh, I used to smoke weed. I stopped smoking it. Haven't in 2-3 years. Got pretty bored with it. I guess I could give her another shot.

Look in the mirror and realize how much of a loser you are becoming. No one will make you stop but yourself and only if you want too. Have some self control if you want to actually stop.

I can't relate to Alcohol but can relate to hardcore addiction on and off for many years. Some area easier to beat than others. I never understood the attraction of drinking, for myself, I would rather snort, pop or boot up my carrga so I get loaded instantly... Drinking doesn't do the trick for me.. I know it can be a bad disease and the detox is bad... I hope you get your life together soon. You will enjoy yourself much better.

Have you addressed maybe the fact that there could be depression somewhere in there? Drinking alone is a big red flag.

The fact that you are in Wisconsin could be part of it, not at all trying to knock the state but isn't drinking regarded as a hobby there?

You need to find something to occupy your time, something you enjoy that is constructive. Maybe put all that money away circle a date 6 months from now and head to Vegas for 4-6 days.

I would say wait and let it phase itself out, but at the volume you consune it maybe too late.

    Best of luck.

Start dieting and working out and get addicted to that instead. Think of the aesthetics you can attain. Think of all the girls that will flock over to you. Besides that, you'll just feel more energised and happier.

If you take this seriously, you can get ripped in months. Make the most out of your college life. Time flies really fast and you only get one chance.

    Good luck.

stikymess, I am very aware of depression being a factor. I am diagnosed with manic depressive disorder so yes, I know that has a lot to do with it.
Tuna Fish Riot, I just signed up for the gym a few days ago. I'm working on that. I hope that if I keep going and starting to see some results I'll rid myself of the addiction.
I really appreciate everyone's help. Thanks for not all being bashers.

Try to learn from other's mistakes, experiences. Hopefully, you won't have to make those mistakes yourself to learn. I think you have a drinking problem if it interferes with your school, work, family, and friends. If you don't have a problem with any of those four areas while drinking I think you are okay. But you should drink a little less, maybe a couple shots every other day. Remember there is a fine line btw having a good buzz and being s-faced drunk. Good luck man.

The alcoholism is worrying but probably a symptom. If you dump it you're just going to find something else to fill the void.

Some of your responses in this thread make me think you might suffer from depression. Without getting properly diagnosed by someone who knows what they are doing you are not going to get anywhere. It may turn out that you are depressed just because your life sucks and not that you suffer from depression however.

You should go see a psychiatrist. The psychologist is fine but if it's an underlying medical condition all the visualization, cognitive therapy and group sessions aren't going to do jack shite.

Anyway if you indeed suffer from depression finding a SSRI inhibitor that works will lead to having a more positive view of yourself and life. You can then work on making it better through other techniques.

Because alcoholism is rampant in my family, I vowed to never drink alone. I'm 38 years old and can count the number of times that I had a drink alone. I have a few drinks a couple time a week.

the key part to your post is "get away with it".
    get away with what?
there is nothing illegal or immoral about drinking at home. there has been such a stigma attached to gambling, porn, drinking, etc that often it is looked at as doing something devious which leads to thinking it is a problem.

having 6-8 shots a day probably isn't the best thing for your body but i don't see the problem in it.

the problem seems to be that you think it is a disease so it tricks you into doing it every day...
    good luck

weed is not better then booze as much harder to stop and you must stay away from both & anything else. At 21 it can be quite normal to be heavily drunk nightly as I was but not alone in your parents basement. You have several issues needing fixed as most of us do. First do not feel alone as we are all in the same boat and most of us are drowning. Second understand that Life's/God's present to you is a new beginning everyday. There is no yesterday nor tomorrow only today and with it being spring it is a great time to anew yourself. Instead of drinking your night away tonight grap pencil & paper and map out your new life. I always write it down as a way to strengthen it besides confirming it. Make a road map in which to proceed. Surely living in the basement and drinking is not part of it! My son is over 500 pounds and still has many friends both male and female. Being a redhead is really not a negativity unless you accept it that way. Most teasers/bullies are simply jealous of the beauty that you behold. A red hair monkey is way better looking then a brown hair and I will make a separate post to prove it. Red hair people are also the very best at sex . My wife is red as well as most of my ealier girlfriends. Dying your hair is not the answer but to bring it out more would be, so be sure to wear colors that will do so.

Get rid of your doctor as no problem exist. Write that on your mirror and be sure to read over and over. There is no problem today as it is anew. I am not adding yesterday nor tomorrow as they do not exist and will live today in the moment. The 'PRESENT' is God's gift to us and you only need to open it up. Tonight before going to bed take a box and wrap it to open tomorrow with a note to yourself to follow. Open this present of the moment and then live it out. Look not forward or behind. Wrap yesterday and any issues and send them adrift. Send them into the white light where they can do no one any harm. Nothing exists anymore as it has all been wipe out. You are now totally free to start your new beginning. What's is your Schedule? It should be written down. What is your sport for today? Be sure to have plans to help others today. Take the garbage out, pluck a garden, do something for mom/dad as they are doing alot for you.

The problem is that you think that you have a problem when that problem ENDED last night or never really existed in the first place. You have no problems and you are perfect in everyway as God does not mess up. We see you and we love you as you are and wouldn't change your looks at all which comes with a great sense of humor as seen throughout your posts. I had thoughts when I first seen your photo a while back and they were of jealousy. Living in the basement could & should be beneficial to your parents as well as yourself. Are you helping them or simply using them?

Life is nothing but lessons, learn them or they will repeat, over and over until you do.

    The Law of Creation

You can create anything you want in your life. You can create true happiness, vibrant wellness, and profound spiritual awakening. Anything that you desire and anything you can imagine will appear in your life provided you follow the rules of the Law of Creation.

The law itself looks simple, but people can misinterpret it and meet with disappointment instead of the success that can so easily be theirs. Here is the Law of Creation in its simplest form. It was powerful enough to create the universe, so you can be certain that it can also create any desired conditions in your life.

Let’s look at the fundamentals. As the story goes; in the beginning, God ‘divided the waters.’ This means that the original consciousness of the Creator was divided into two aspects so that they could be set into complementary motion.

One of those aspects of original consciousness is creative thought. The other aspect of original consciousness is the love that builds the creative idea into form. Then, motion is required because, without it, there would be no “Let there be light” and nothing would come alive.

Here is the original Law of Creation in its most fundamental form:

    Creation = Thought + Feeling + Motion

Humans are made in the ‘image’ (i.e. the creative imagination) of the Creator. As such, we are endowed with the same creative faculty of imagination. Imagination is the greatest power in the universe because it creates everything.

For countless generations, people have been disempowered by the idea that, “It’s only your imagination.” This demeaning action against your greatest God-given creative power takes the spark out of life. It turns people into sheeple who live their lives meekly following somebody else’s idea of what they should be doing. With the creative power of your imagination, you can reach for your greatest potential and fill your life with an amazing sense of achievement.

Realize the power of your imagination. It is your God-given creative faculty.

People work under the misapprehension that they are bound by circumstances. This is merely an appearance. The reality is that your creative faculty holds incredible power over your circumstances. Once you appreciate your inbuilt transformative ability, then the power is yours to wield and your life will never again be the same.

Imagination gives you the power to engineer entire new realities that develop your life’s potential to the maximum. You should be able to achieve everything that you are capable of achieving. Using your imagination to create new realities is a solid feat of design engineering, not something vague in a realm of non-reality. A better term for engineering new realities through the creative power of imagination would be imagineering.

The word imagineering was coined in the 1940’s to encourage, of all things, imaginative new uses for aluminum. In the 1980’s, the Walt Disney company adopted the term imagineering to encourage creative concepts in children’s entertainment.

In the English language, words typically evolve into a variety of meanings. One other usage of this word has been to describe the concept of looking at the past to see future effects. In our case, using it for a metaphysical purpose, this word would be defined as follows.

Imagineering is the application of the power of the creative faculty of imagination to transform current circumstances into a preferred reality.

Circumstances can easily be changed by the creative power of imagination, applied with intent and energy so that a desired new reality materializes into existence. In order to express this creative capability, you need to adapt the original Law of Creation to work successfully in the human realm.

In the human realm, the formula, Creation = Thought + Feeling + Motion, is applied as follows.

    Thought
After deciding upon a desired goal, you need to imagine what that goal will look like once it is made manifest. Imagine yourself experiencing the end result. Do not imagine the process that leads up to the end result as the universe will find the shortest route in its own way, just as water always finds its own particular route from the hills to lower ground.

    Feeling
Then, add the Feeling part of the formula. This is where you feel the excitement of what it is like to be a part of that manifested goal. Imagine how it feels to experience that new reality. Adopt the mood in order to fully immerse yourself in that new reality. To be in balance, the feeling part of this exercise should receive as much focus and energy as the creative thought part. Energize the feelings that will come with your experience of the end result.

    Motion
Finally, there is the Motion part of the formula. In the human physical world, the concept of motion means to take action. We have to take the series of actions that will lead to the manifestation of the desired goal.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the intended goal would suddenly appear, as if by magic? I always think so. However, the rules of physical existence require that we take steps to make it possible for the intended reality to become manifest physically.

It will seem like magic, nevertheless, because your goal can be achieved easily and effortlessly as a result of the power you have applied behind the scenes.

You now have a formula for success that works like magic... provided you are aware of the time trap.
