the 2 is distributed before the division.

if it read: 48/2*(9+3) then it would equal 288

Trying to filter out the able and unable? Ask me this question when I was 10 and you wouldn't sound pretentious.

It's actually (p)(e)(md)(as)...the multiplication and division are the same step and you just do whatever is the most left first...same with addition and subtraction.

sorry to be so blunt, but you are wrong.

this is correct but 2 numbers next to each other u automatically do first 2(12) u gotta multiple those first

BEDMAS = Divide before you multiply. Divide 48/2 and multiply it with 12. 24 x 12 = Magic. What is there to debate here?

    also wrong.

The P in PEMDAS is the stuff INSIDE the parentheses only.

If it was written like (2(9+3)) THEN the final answer would be 2...but it's not

Exactly Sam. If it was 48÷(2(9+3)) then it'd be different.

nah, you don't. not sure where you learned math, but you were taught incorrectly.

It doesn't matter at all if there is a visible * or not. it is the same thing as two numbers next to each other

you don't even need the phone #...just use a calculator for god sakes (even though you shouldn't need one if you knew how to do order of ops)

People who got 2 are probably doing it like this:
    48/[2(9+3)]
    48/[2(12)]
    48/[24]

    = MAGIC
