Hard to imagine a 200 point turn around on such a benign tweet.

Just a little over sold. But I bet the sellers will be back. The NO china deal is not priced in and neither is a potential Iran- Saudi tit-for-tat.

Growth is slowing, the economy has been very strong the last couple years, an at least partial slowdown is inevitable, the China narrative is too simple, the tariffs have been in place for a while, I think the market likely continues to trend lower near-term

After the most recent tariff announcement from Trump, traders didn’t know whether to price in a long term trade war that goes beyond 2020 or something that will be resolved in the short term. Given that, it looks like before yesterday the markets had prices in more of a scenario that is a drawn out long trade war. What the most recent promising remarks should do is keep us in the green today. Right now the market appears to have been priced for a longer trade war and given the remarks overnight we should see traders move their target for a more short term trade dispute rather than a long term full blown trade war. As a result, green at open and for most if not all of the day. Wouldn’t be surprised to turn red again quickly, given how much speculation around a trade war is being considered when pricing today’s market.

Looks like futures were red for most of the night with moments of small gains. This market does not know how to trade given the recent tariffs. It’s looking for any reason to moon or tank. Volatility has to be the play here but the key is getting in at the right price. I’m thinking about trying to start a volatility play close to market open on Wednesday. Probably a leveraged ETF looking for 2x on VIX will try to enter early Wednesday morning or possibly not at all because the futures look like the classic bear trap. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the market trade down early but end the day slightly positive. But then again, what do I know?

I bought more at $175 and sold some covered calls.

BABA and BIDU are being whipsawed with the trade war. They remind me of AMZN and GOOG with respect to their earnings engine. But it will not be smooth sailing. It has to be a fall on your sword investment and just hold.

I actually did luckily sell my personal AABA holding a couple weeks ago at the very top - very lucky. Trying to decide whether to dip back in either that way or through BABA long-term in a retirement account.

BIDU has really taken some hits. Is it too early here?

I got called out of BABA $10 higher last month...got lucky too.

BIDU I think drops their earnings today or tomorrow. So I would wait or if you are feeling froggy buy half or less.

Both BIDU and BABA are on earnings rocket ships. Take BIDU, looking for $91 in earnings in '21. That's a $160 stock that will be adding nearly a $100 a share to their book value yearly in a couple of years. Slap a 5x on that and you got a $500 stock in a few years.

But if it were just that easy...there is substantial currency risks and the gov pulls BIDU strings too with all kinds of censorship/restrictions.

Which would you select for $15k account, Robinhood or Interactive Brokers. Traded previously with IB and had no issues.

Does Robinhood charge an unknown spread fee when you buy/sell. For example they might list bid ask for a stock at $100/$100.10 whereas IB / market has $100.04/$100.06? Is that how they make money?

I have read they receive rebates from the market makers, which I am somewhat confused by. Generally this is not much margin there, pennies if that, why/how are they receiving rebates?

I understand the "they make interest on balances" along with subscriptions but not the other income generation by them.

I heard they offer Options now. Do they offer Eminis with easy to input stop losses? I did well timing ES longs 5-10 pts by predicting bounces off oversold moments using bollinger bands and a couple other indicators previously when in confirmed bull trend. Only made a few thousand but did show a small alpha.

Not a day trader by any means but looking to do a little bit of trading ES (1 contract) along with some long term investments.

Thanks for the feedback for any who answer.

I use Robinhood. Have used Fidelity. Never used IB. If you've had no issues with IB why are you looking to switch?

Robinhood is super easy, convenient, and then obviously fee free. That's why I use it, but only for my swing trades, not for my long term value plays.

Futures have been indicating a slightly green open for the past few hours...(between +.20% and .50% approx on the Nasdaq). Oil has been up the past few hours too. China has been trading red since the start of their session but they've seen gains within the last hour. Definitely potential for Chinese markets to close with small gains if the momentum continues overnight. The rest of Asia is trading green pretty much. Will keep an eye on these into the night and as the market opens here in the US tomorrow morning. Will also watch Europe too. Hoping to see slightly green futures throughout the night and markets worldwide to show gains across the board, even if small. Probably won't happen, but that'd be nice.

Chinese stocks aren't gonna do much for the next few years... The tariffs aren't going away. This is just getting started guys. It's been a long time coming. Long overdue. It's the only way we're going to cut this deficit. This war will never be over. You'll see small gains and losses until Trump is out. You're not gonna see any 20% jumps imo on these stocks.

US futures were indicating a slightly positive open when trading began hours ago. China opened their trading session up, currently around +1.5% on the Shanghai Composite. As a result, US futures have edged further into the green, with the Nasdaq leading the way. Oil is slightly green, and VIX futures are down.

Hong Kong, May 21, 2019 -- Moody's Investors Service says that Baidu Inc.'s modest 1Q 2019 results will not immediately affect its A3 issuer and senior unsecured ratings, or the positive outlook.

"While Baidu's profit margins will weaken due to the company's investments in new strategic business initiatives over the next 6-12 months, we expect that its solid revenue and cash flow generation, supported by its leading market position, will remain intact," says Lina Choi, a Moody's Senior Vice President.
Moodys maintains A3 credit rating on BIDU

"We also expect Baidu will maintain a solid net cash position, which will provide it with a buffer against its ongoing investment needs," adds Choi, also Moody's lead analyst for Baidu.
