Anyway ... another thing about going to a card club is that you're paying for gas, food, drinks and ( let's hope) tips. You have to factor all those elements into your "winnings".

I don't think he's saying that you should deduct/mix the money from your poker bankroll, only that ---- let's use a contrived example:

Let's say you had a card room 100 miles from you and you drive your Humvee there and back round trip costs $100 in gas* and since its 100 miles away you have to get a bit to eat there so it costs $15 per trip.

Your poker bankroll starts @ $1000, and every time you play there you leave with a profit of exactly $100. You play there 10 times. Your poker bankroll has healthily doubled -- but your "entertainment" expenses during this time period were $1150.

This is a contrived maybe unrealistic example, but valid I think.

    * I won't add amortized vehicle maintenance costs for 2000 miles of driving or other factors to complicate the point.

AS an accountant by trade, it is natural for me to discriminate the 2.
Usually when i go to a live game we do that with friends, and we car pool reducing the cost for all of us.
That leave the cost of food, that you have to eat anyway in order to survie no matter what.
Therefore I use the poker money for poker only, not even for casino games( i do not play any by the way).
Now , this is my life style for playing, maybe if wold make a leaving from poker, all would affect the bank roll, but fortunatly my income comes from other sources, ( thanks God).
Your point is totally valid for a pro or semy pro who makes a leaving out of poker. In my case I want to build a helthy BR to play one day bigger stakes.
    Best regards

You should play anywhere - be it home games, online, casino - where you will make the most money. I was just saying you need to factor in those few things ... gas, tips and food ( yes you have to eat but casino food is probably 5x what you would spend at home). So if the casino is where you are making the coin, do it their.

Im curious though ... what games are you playing at your local card room. If you don't mind me asking.

good points, it looks like even though you are not accounting for the non-poker costs against your profits, you are naturally minimizing them, so they won't be sneaking up and eating away from your profits.

How many live players might play slots or blackjack while they are on the waiting list for a game. Bad move....
