I used to have alot of success at online poker, but now i cant win a race to save my life. I have had very good sucess at live tourneys. Have had many bad beats live but still seem to make final tables. What do you prefer and why?

Poker is all about variance. As long as you practice good bankroll management bad beats shouldn't be a problem...in the long run. Although live and online poker are the same game, poker, there are varying strategies for both. Obviously, playing live you can physically see you opponent, giving some an advantage if they know what they're looking for. A good example of a live tell is something as simple as table posture. Some players will tend to slump back in their chair when uninterested in a hand. When that same player gets a playable hand they may become attentive and hover over the table. Betting pattens are important in both live and online poker. However, online, betting patterns become arguably more important than anything else. For me, I love to hate both. Sometimes its online while other times I find myself playing live games every night of the week. I'm not exactly sure why I prefer either but I do know playing online, in the comfort of your own home, sometimes beats the local poker spot or casino. I mean where else, at least I don't know any but I'm sure they exist, can you be all in in more than one way if you know what I mean. Maybe they don't exist except for a back room type deal because on second though getting a blow job while playing poker with 9 other guys doesn't exactly sound appealing to me.

Positives and negatives to each.

Online-
Positives- Play in the comfort of your own home, you can play as many tables as you want, tourney starting every damn near every minute. You can more easily play short sessions.
Negatives- I find it easier to forget that I'm playing with real money online and have a tough time using br management, players are much tougher overall.

Live-
Positives- Much, much easier competition in most games compared to online. Some people enjoy the social interaction that comes with a live game.
Negatives- You have to drive to play, you might not always be able to join a cash game or tourney immediately. Game is much slower, you get 30-40 hands an hour and your only playing one table. Also have to deal with assholes and retards.

Biggest by far reasoning is that I play online for free at the opportunity of millions. I cash nearly everyday and never deposit except extremely rarely and only for the match bonus or necessity to withdraw. ONLINE is FREE POKER!

i play both online and live, but i like playing online more because of all the tournys that you can play at once. however, theres nothing better than playing in a big tourny down AC.

People have no respect for money online. i just played in a 10 dollar rebuy and people kept going all in with trash and double rebuying. i saw a dude lose like 240 while i was at his table. then unfortunatly i got moved. i love easy money if my hand can hold up.

Competition is much much softer live, especially when it comes to cash games.

Also I would think that because of the other skills that come into play and the fun element, a good player has a much higher edge on the bad players playing live than online.

It's much easier to make consistent money online, but live is much more fun.

you dont understand the concept of rebuy tournaments from their point of view

they do it because it is +EV for them to increase the amount of chips that the table has

they want to play deepstacked against people who really dont know how to play deepstacked, and in a $10 rebuy, there arent a lot of them

i fully understant the concept of a rebuy but if you lose 240 for the buy in your odds of winning increase a few percent and your cost of buy in is up 2400 percent

i prefer live for the human interaction stand point.
however i start liking more and more the online games. it is a lot more effeicient than traveling 100 miles and then loose a bit or bake even plus the fact that you spend a lot more between gas and food.
on line is the way, and freerolls are even better. as someone else said you can make free money on a daily bases.

i am very familar with rebuys but i dont see the value in calling all ins with a3 and other junk hands multiple times just to lose it on another questionable call if you happen to get lucky.

Yes I'd rather spend $100 dollars a tournament instead of $10 if $10 is all I need. It's much better spending 10 times what I need so that my opponents have more chips than me and my chip stack is slowly falling significantly below the average stack. The advantage I get giving my opponents more chips is huge because they don't know how to use them effectively. Playing bad is playing bad. When people are throwing away chips in the start of these tournaments it's very easy to put yourself in a position to win by playing well. The more times you have to rebuy, the further behind you are because the average chip stack goes up. While there's nothing wrong with rebuying, it's pointless to have to rebuy because of poor decisions. Your can have a wider range of hands to go all in with, but hand strength and position will always apply.

Well said...There is no reason to play bad, ever, even if you can rebuy for more chips.

I prefer live poker. The best part about it is that the competition is far softer. There's also a social aspect to it that online poker doesn't have, and I find it much much easier to grind hours live than online.

The benefits of online poker are better promotions, lower rake, and the ability to multitable. I just can't put in the hours online because I find with less information the game is a lot less interesting to me.

I agree that live poker is much more interesting. Online poker is one big grind. Sometimes i find my self playing badly out of bordom. I rarely get bored at a live game.

poker room by my house has been picking up on tournaments. alot of people turn out for them. not as fast of a blind structure as before.

2 different games , i play a lot online , but live i play with big money online i do not play higher than 2/ 4 No limit , sometimes i invest in a bigger online tourney like FTOPS or SCOOP
