    World Cup Standings 05/17

Not taking over for Sam, but figured should go ahead and post the standings. If Sam does post the proper link later, please move this post into that thread!

Of course, the by far most interesting spectacle as of today is that BFFs, AutoDonk and bobbywaves, have the EXACT SAME point total with just two weeks left. With both of them also smack in the middle of the Confederates Team, it's naturally quite likely that they will wind up on the same squad (though granted, given how tightly packed that team is, things could change drastically in even one day).

That said, for the two of them to be exactly tied at this moment is too much of a coincidence to be a mere coincidence imo. Might definitely be a sign of something bigger - perhaps SBR wants them to wind up on the same team, knowing that the spectacle of that will allow them to sell many more tickets to the Finals (akin to the NBA trying to arrange every series to go to game seven). Or perhaps it's something even larger - maybe the two of them are actually identical twins separated at birth and thus destined to perform at the same level in the end? Possibilities galore....

Anyway, I would estimate the cutoffs to make the respective teams at this point will be (pure guess no real analysis done for these):

    Confederates: 5500
    World: 4600

Thanks for the update, Sammy deserves a vacation day.

I assume you're only tracking players currently on board/striking distance & didn't count PhillyGuy's 600 pts yesterday? Despite missing many tourney's, I think Philly is now in contention for Confeds.

4520 points and not on a team. Lame.

Well I only started tracking recently, that is on May 10, so I used the players totals' from that list.

If anyone was not on that list (which I don't think philly was) then I would not have them on my list, no. So assuming that list was correct, is philly really in contention now? That list had everyone with 1900 points or higher so he would have had to score massively in the last week in order to get to the 3200 required to be in range of confederates that I have. Perhaps he is though, again without knowing what his total was at the May 10 update and therefore not choosing to track him, it could have happened without me realizing.

philly has 2 1st place and 1 9th place for 1260 pts since may 11, according to his badges.

Well assuming that's what he has, if he had 1900 or fewer points as of May 10, that still would not put him on the above list. That said, not sure how quickly smaller badges disappear so maybe he has more? Either way, even if he would on this list now, almost certainly near the very bottom which is barely in contention (~1400 points out with 10 days to go).

I was just going by this, which would put Philly in the 3,600-3,700 pt range:

I believe I'd be 6th on the Canadian team

If correct, it's certainly still in striking distance for a player of Philly's caliber.

Asked sam9ball to clarify about that a couple days ago and he said this:

    ronpaul2008 4465 20 Netherlands
    dogkatcher 2925 24 Canada

ronpaul2008 is listed as being in the Netherlands
dogcatcher is listed as being in Canada but actually in California

Ronpaul2008 just confirmed in chat that he is US actually - he is merely in Netherlands for a trip currently which is what lead SBR to think that no doubt. So I assume he should actually be listed in US/Confeds - will change him myself starting tomorrow.

If he's still there during the finals, he'll register and play for world.

Doubt that's the policy - I mean imagine he came back in the middle of the finals, would he switch teams at that juncture lol? Surely the policy has to be wherever your permanent residence is. Otherwise, several people from say New Jersey or Washington (state) could just trek up a few miles to Canada right before the Finals to qualify for that team when otherwise they wouldn't qualify. No idea how SBR ascertains what a person's actual residence is if they are doing it based on IP or whatever - would not be hard for that to be wrong.

Anyway, I have to say this is yet another reason that I think it would be best not to have the World Cup format - when it's not clear which team a certain person should be on, which could definitely have a fair impact (if ronpaul2008 is on World he very likely qualifies while for Confederates he likely will not), well that obviously is a rather big issue, and one that affects others as well. More reason to go with the Top 48 draft style format - at least in that, absolutely no worries whether someone is actually US or Canada or what "team" anyone in general counts for if they happen to be traveling during the qualifying stage. Either make Top 48 or don't!

I'm almost positive I saw that somewhere in years past. Sam and them would have to clarify I suppose. I am all for the draft style like I posted about the other day. Would be mega fun seeing who made what teams then
