I was playing 1/2 NL and had about 500

I call a raise with 98s (diamonds)

Three players see a flop with $30 in pot

Flop comes with two diamonds. I flop a flush draw.

On the turn the flush don't come but it brings and Ace

It checks to the guy who raised on the button, he bets $20 and me and the other guy call

The river is a diamond

The UTG ships his entire stack in. He bets $500+ into a $90 pot and I have 9 high flush. Never played with this guy before. He was some knob that really didn't have much experience kept folding out of turn, betting when it wasn't his turn and did it to the point where the dealer says if he does it again he is done.

Easy fold in this situation. Shoulda bet the turn to find out how strong the opposition's holding. If & or when a 4th Diamond hits the river, you know for a fact he likely has a high card flush.

Still doesn't change my decision: Fold. Why bother risking $480.00+ into a pot of $90.00 + his $???.??

Is it a QJKA9 board? a 2 5 7 A J board? 764A5? Is the board paired? Guys like this are pretty fit or fold. You're going to have to have an extremely good read and be correct quite often for calling to be the correct move. Not to mention there's someone left to act.

About five hands later the guy did the same thing only worse on a four flush board. Bet all his chips into a $15 pot and a guy with just the "K" high flush called and he showed J8 with the "8" high flush. He lost $285 making this move and was quickly felted.

Obviously my hand was good earlier.

Difficult to fold, I know. Advanced players usually aren't looking to stack off without a high flush.

Just because he bluffed the $15 pot doesn't mean he didn't have a strong hand in the $90 pot. Better you conceded the hand cheaply.

you need to be close to 85% sure to call. given an unknown opponent you are nowhere close to getting the correct odds.

Unless you've played with him before or have an unbelievable read on the guy (which you say you don't), almost impossible to call in that situation.

ya i would have folded the 89 flush unless i had previous history.
