So the FBI calls you and says you may be going to prison for 10 years and face huge fines and you're only concern is that you could be barred from some sportsbooks, this just seems like a bullshit post to me

This was my thought too. It's hard to place bets from prison.

Any chance this dude is a government employee trying to scare SBR poster from gambling online

Mods, can you change the FBI wording to just Feds instead. Anytime you see FBI associated with a post, the automatic assumption to a less informed poster's is that they're probably committing the same alleged crime as we speak. Probably got a few poster scared sh1tless right now

I wouldn't quite call that a valid point. Lot's of benefits to playing online as opposed to live. Many people make a living playing solely online.

Yeah, I guess that guy farts leprechauns then.

It's amazing... A guy comes on here and mentions he deposited $60K with an offshore and people act like he is talking about being abducted by aliens.

98% of the posters on this site are pathetic bustouts who can't even imagine having access to such a vast fortune as $60K. Very sad...

lol you guys are so pathetic. "Omgzzz there's no way you have 60k. Otherwise you'd be a SBR pro 'cuz that's $200 and proves you're rich." Go on twoplustwo and read around(especially the high stakes no limit sports discussion thread). It will be a nice learning experience for you guys to see 20 year old kids making 300k/year and guys transferring 5 figures to one another on full tilt without even blinking. Go. Learn. Be sad.

Both online poker and sportsbetting are most definitely illegal in the U.S.

Yeah, they don't enforce it, for now, but I'm guessing they will go after the sportsbettors if they put the approval stamp on poker.

    A couple of observations/questions from a non-legal type:

First how can the U.S. Government ever prove illegal gambling took place without data from the sportsbooks servers which they will never be able to get. There can't possibly be a U.S. law making it illegal to send money to or from Matchbook (which is legally licensed in the country it is in, Antigua) written anywhere in U.S. law.

Second, (although you really need to check with a lawyer on this one), but I'm pretty sure regarding money laundering where the money comes back to you from a foreign country, it can only be considered money laundering if the activity is illegal in that foreign country as well as in the U.S. In Matchbook's case it is legal to gamble in Antigua, Matchbook is licensed there, therefore money laundering can not be considered. I am almost certain this would be the case if you received funds from some major UK bookmaker (that it could not be considered money laundering). On the other hand, maybe this is because there is some kind of mutual treaty between the UK and U.S, that may not exist with Antigua this is why you really need to check with a lawyer.

Assuming this is true, I can't imagine he did it logging onto an online account from the prison computers...

I take the story for true, at the very least, from the OP's viewpoint.

    1) The FBI does not have folks ringing you up.
    2) If they want you, you will hear a knocking sound at your front door. Unless more extreme measures are required.

What confuses me is that there seems to be clear knowledge of what the transfer was for and where it went, i.e. gaming and a sportsbook. Sounds to me like simple scare tactics trying to extract information.

    Long and short:

If you are really bothered by it, run it by an attorney. If it only concerns you vis a vis moving cash to books, I am uncertain how to handle that. BUT if all is as stated, some agency is clearly watching you and will get you if there is any possible way.

The "say nothing" advice is sound.
