    Buy a bag of potatoes for a couple bucks and then just chop a few up and fry them for dinner with salt and pepper added. You can also get discount meat at the supermarket for a few bucks. Rice and sourdough bread are cheap as well.

    At Safeway they will take 30-50% off the price of a steak if it expires on the day that you buy it. And the meat is still good too. I have heard that even if the meat is turning kind of green it is still good to eat.
