2021 NCAA wrestling championships - thread

    Anybody looking fwd to this?

Or too out of whack b/c of the Virus?

If u like watching a machine...check out SLee at 125.

What would odds be for SLee to win? Vs the field?

The Purdue guy Schroder did get 1st takedown vs Lee at BigTens. And then Lee turned it on.

What would it take for Lee to lose? I really think only an injury. I'm not sure he can even be "caught" by anyone in this field.

Can't think of a field where it's so clear that everyone else is playing for 2nd.

I think my fair line would be:
    *SLee to take 1st -2200
    *Field to take 1st +2000

Amazing that Lee completely dominated that Schroder after a slow start.

Yeah, props to Schroder for 1st T/D. It's like it lit a flame on Lee.

Can't imagine a bigger fav to win 4 straight matches. As close as I can think of where Pro vs Amateurs.

I'll be rooting for 19-seed Barnett (WIS). He pinned Schroder earlier in year.

Think I'd make him a good-sized Fav vs the field:
    *Gable to win -180
    *Field to win +160

    Some opinions/notes by wt:

*125: Only suspense for me is wide-open field for 2nd. SLee is a Living Legend, will go down as one of the best.

*133: Rooting for 2-seed Bravo-Young (PennSt). Think he can beat Fix, if that match materializes.

*141: Top-seed Eierman (Iowa) surely benefited from being in the Hawkeye room. Looks like his to win.

    *149: Top 3 seeds undefeated.

*157: Deakin (NW) vs Hidlay (NCSt) would shape up as a great final.

*165: Top-seed Marinelli (IA) could see Mekhi Lewis (VaT) in semifinals. Potential re-match, when Lewis made his mark.

*174: Kemerer is fourth top-seed from Iowa.

*184: 2-seed Hidlay. Two brothers make the finals?

*197: 1/2 seeds could be re-match of big10 final. Amine vs Schultz.

*Hvy: Steveson looks like sizable fav. Scores more than your normal Hvy.

It's a sport where it's really hard to predict upsets. You look at the bracket, and it looks so chalky.

I would literally piss myself if SLee doesn't win. Can't imagine a guy being a bigger Fav.

Hey, my 125 guy Barnett (WIS). I honestly think he could make Finals. Feel like there's that big of a gap btw Lee and others.

Years ago, superbook.com had some lines for the Finals. I think Flo-wrestling talks some betting lines, too.

JJ, that's true. It's true for ANY sport. But I think wrestling is especially chalky. So hard to beat the top guys.

Put it this way. In this year's bracket, I would expect 9 of the 10 1-seeds to make the Finals. Who's gonna beat them?

OMG, Lee tech-falled the guy in 1:33!

    Better prop for SLee is:

*O/U on Lee's aggregate time on mat for 4 matches. o/u: 16.5 minutes.

Round of 16 match. Tricky line:

    5 Lovett, Neb: +100
    12 Murin, IA -120

I know people will ask why I flip the Fav/Dog, based on seed. Murin had a bad Big10. Still think he wins > 50/50.

Limits = 120/100, if anyone wants to play ball.

JJ...I think he WILL be competing for an Olympic spot.

Was on national team last year.

It's rare for guy to be dual competitor in NCAAs and International. But it does happen. See Kyle Snyder.

Pretty much a given these college wrestling champs go into MMA after they graduated college and when they are broke with a college academic degree looking at them in the face that was handed to them quite easily.

Who wants a desk job now after college when you were a wrestling stud?

Just gotta man up enough to take a punch to the face and like it enough to carry on to the next step (MMA). Having a granite chin and a great boxing coach helps them start off in MMA.

Jibbs that link is from 2013, but it did have a guy from Penn St on there.

I don't think colleges were mentioned for anyone else.

You think Spencer Lee goes MMA?

197 2-seed Schultz (neb): pinned by NoDakSt guy
...Schultz had been #1 rank most of yr.

Hard to beat the chalk when they give extra free time when they're behind. While you should be able to avoid a takedown in 7 seconds I'd be furious if I were any those people from Campbell.
