CFP National Championship Game - LSU Drawing Public Bettors

LSU Drawing Majority of Betting Tickets

The College Football National Championship Game is under a week away but the betting action for next Monday night’s matchup remains one-sided. What’s the latest public betting ticket count for Clemson versus LSU?

    According to our
College Football Public Betting Chart page, the LSU Tigers are drawing 74% of the betting tickets as of this writing. LSU remains a 5.5-point favorite at most sports books, although the line is listed at 5 if bettors shop around. With that much action on LSU, it’s unlikely that the line drops past five, although sharp action on Clemson would force oddsmakers to adjust the number.

LSU is 11-5 against the spread in its last 16 games overall, is 4-0 against the number in its last four games when facing a team with a winning record and is 5-1 at the betting window in its last six games when listed as a neutral site favorite. On the other side, Clemson is 9-1 against the number in its last 10 bowl games when listed as an underdog, which includes last season’s victory over Alabama in the national championship. The Tigers are also 20-6 against the number in their last 26 games overall and are 37-18 ATS in their last 55 games as an underdog.

Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow completed seven passes of at least 20 yards versus Oklahoma, which tied him for the second-most in any game over the last two seasons according to Pro Football Focus. While the Sooners were no match for LSU’s offense, that’s an impressive feat against any Power 5 defense. Burrow and the LSU offense is sure to get a stiffer test versus Clemson’s defense, although outside of Auburn for a half, no opponent has slowed down the Tigers.

Of course, Clemson has its own threat under center in sophomore
Trevor Lawrence. He completed 18-of-33 passes for 259 yards with two touchdowns and also rushed for 107 yards with a score in the Tigers’ 29-23 win over Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. Both of Lawrence’s touchdown passes went to Travis Etienne, who was a monster for the Buckeyes defense. This year’s national championship figures to be one for the ages.
