There are more than 2000 people in the NFL contest (formerly BTP). Used to be about 500. As with the Vegas Supercontest the odds of winning something have gone way down. I remember SRF John putting up a cool motorcycle.

The plus side is that we could play for 200K right here if 2000 people posted up just $100.

How much would you post up, for real, for a NFL contest? It wouldn't have to be the same for everyone. (There could be a percentage based payout, based on how much one bought in for).

There is a small site were about 100 people posted up 300 for the NFL. That could easily be a thousand here, so we would be playing for 300K. Post up is no problem at all.

I remember this place from the beginning. There wasn't even a forum. When the forum started it was sharp. Now it's mostly degenerates, so my mistake to bring up something that would seek to take advantage of the numbers here.

The trick is to find the sweet spot where you have enough of a chance to win a prize and still have enough money to play for. If we wanted to play for 100K we could have 250 people post up $400. The more people enter, the higher the odds that you're going to run into some folks who are extremely lucky for one season. Somebody will always get lucky over such a small sample, but you want to limit that influence.

I already have most of the software set up for a NFL contest (5 picks per week). Too late for this season, but if there's enough interest we could do something next year.

You're pulling random numbers out of thin air (500 people) and proceeding to call it simple economics........
You're forgetting the human nature factor. So in your example you're going to tell 500 people they're either going to feast or famine. One bad week of picks and they already see their bank roll gone in the contest assuming they can't come back. At least playing that $1k in the book, assuming they have discipline, there's also the options they may lose a little or win a little and roll that balance to NBA or NHL after NFL. Your suggestion is all or nothing for a lot of bettors and for 95% of them, it's nothing. The super contest compared to just regular bets is like playing tournaments vs cash games in poker. A lot of people prefer cash games because it's not all or nothing.

The RX already has this type of contest, so I would assume if there's more interest, SBR could advertise it here, but it looks like there's a reason why they don't.
