Lee Corso used to call his turnaround at KanSt the best revival ever. Think about where KanSt USED to be.

They probably don't remember how to hire coaches there. Given the explosion of offense in the Big 12 and K-State never really having one - he did really well to get them to Bowl Games most years. Think they gotta get with the times now though and bring in someone with an offensive mind.

I went to kstate and I think he's a bit overrated. He had a couple great years in the late 90s / early 2000s and has been average the majority of the time. Last 10 years they've treaded water with .500 records. I really don't see the hype with him. Once the big TV contract money came in the 1990s to the big 12 it was inevitable the program would improve anyways.

Turnaround ranks with what Schnellenberger did with Louisville.

From 1912 through Snyder’s first season as coach, in 1989, the Wildcats had one Bowl appearance and no double-digit win seasons. At that time, K-State was the worst program in college football history by a wide margin -- 50 more defeats than No. 2 Wake Forest.

One of the first things Snyder did at K-State in 1989 was change uniforms. When he arrived, the team wore purple helmets with the word “Cats” written across them in script. Purple and silver jerseys featured numbers and logos depicting Willie the Wildcat. The team wore plain silver pants.

Some liked the look, but not Snyder. He hated them.

Why? They didn’t help K-State win. Before his arrival, the Wildcats were in the midst of a 29-game winless streak and led all of college football in losses. They had played in one bowl. No way Snyder was coaching a team in those uniforms. They represented futility.

Instead, he enlisted the help of a local artist and created a football specific K-State logo, known by fans as the Powercat, and uniforms cut from the same cloth as the Dallas Cowboys. He also darkened the shade of purple.

“It was just a matter of wanting to be a little bit different,” Snyder says now. “The program had needed some success and not had any success. Consequently, if you keep wearing the same logos and uniforms as you always have, it sends the message that you may end up being the same.”

The program had also not won a game since October 1986, going 0–26–1 in that time. Snyder won only one game in his first season, beating the recently renamed North Texas, but it was a significant win because it was K-State's first win in three seasons. The game was especially thrilling, with a touchdown pass coming on the last play of the game

He retired and came back before. Maybe he'll make a return to the sidelines when he hits 90.

Kansas State Wildcats first ever bowl win, and only 2nd bowl appearance.

He did a lot with the program, but like so many others, did not know when to go out like a champ. He had to wait until things became inevitable.

Looks like K state will be back to 3 win seasons for the next couple decades.
