How do posters win the 3 question trivia thing ?

You have to be a walking almanac of sports knowledge.

I get first 2 correct about 90% of the time, but have never got the 3rd.

The third will always trip me up with something from the 50s or 60s. It'll be something like "Who was the knuckleball reliever for so-n-so in the 1950something world series?" And all four choices will be players i never heard of.

My question today was something about Lenny Dykstra...I knew two answers were out so I guessed on the other two and got lucky.

It isn't easy, I've almost never known the answer for certain on the third question (a few rare times perhaps but quite rare!).

That said, you can often narrow it down if you know something about the subject - eliminate one or two of the given answers. And if not, there is always the chance at getting it by a total pure guess (which I have certainly done a few times!). That's how you can win it heh! But yes if you want to get all three questions extremely consistently, say 75%+ of the time, then probably you do need to be a semi-walking almanac of sports knowledge.

I think there was one stretch where I got all three correct four or five times in a row. And there was another stretch where I don't think I got all three a single time in a whole month! Certainly luck/variance involved - just keep giving it your best, and you will hit it a few times here and there for sure, especially if, as you say, you get the first two questions correct 90% of the time - certainly you can get the third question correct at least 25% of the time so collectively you can win maybe 20% at worst. So it shall happen!

I used to do that myself since I would very often get the first two and would usually have 0 clue about the third question.

But then I realized that if you can get the third question at least one-third of the time, that is better EV than stopping at two in the long-term. No idea what my % of getting the third question is, but given the chances of randomly knowing it, sometimes being able to eliminate one or two of the answers, or getting it by purely guessing - have to think that my overall chance of getting the third question is a bit higher than 33%. But I could be wrong - haven't kept track of my success rate over long period in that regard.

i love when get a tough 1st question always surprises me, then sometimes the 2nd question will be really simple, the best for the 3rd question is if u get a year, like who won the superbowl in 1982 those are easiest to find fast typing, sbrdrew was talking about having a trivia contest or something one month that would be nice

Ya I'd have to start tracking it too. Too often for me it's a blind guess. Out of 20 times, I probably lose out on the 1st or 2nd question 5 times or there about? So like 20 out of 100. 80 correct x 60 points= 4800. Of those 80 times, if you guess 28 correctly (35%), you'll be at 4,900. Could I get 35% correct? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I normally quit after the second question.

    It's usually:

1.) How many feet is the pitcher's mound from home plate?
2.) What sport did Kobe Bryant play?
3.) In 1961, what highschool did the girl go to that Mickey Mantle was nailing?

Today's 2nd question was much harder than the 3rd for me. The 3rd had to do with the NBA finals. It was definitely new but it wasn't that difficult.

Sometimes the first question trips me up. Last Friday I got a golf question and blew it. Had it narrowed down to 2 and picked the wrong one.

People that say google don't know what they're talking about. The ones that say google don't have the trivia badges to prove it.

If you look hard enough the answer just pops out at you.

Yah, Fun fact i learned prepping for tests like gre and lsat years ago... when you’re just purely guessing between A, B, C, and D, guess C. People tend to make C the answer slightly more often than A B D

i'm always expecting an easy 1st question so when it's not i'm always surprised and not ready but the best is when u get really easy 1st question and really easy 2nd question ur confidence is sky high and u feel like going to get it for sure and the 3rd question humbles u real fast

i agree with google being helpful especially if it involves years or certain things but other times u get a question where this is no way to look it up in 20 secs the best u can do is try to narrow it down to 1 out of 3 or 50/50
